Afternoon visit to the Museum ofFolk Architecture near Lviv, an impressivecollection of ethnic crafts from regions ofWestern Ukraine. (B)Day 3 Lviv to YaremcheDrive to the town of Yaremche, the main gateto the Carpathian National Nature Park. TheRiver Prut runs through Yaremche and aseries of bridges and ruins of former bridgescross the river. Not far from the town are theDovbusha Cliffs and some lovely trails, idealfor walking. We include a walking tour aroundthe village, as well as a visit to a traditionalhandicraft market. Further afield a trip ismade to the mountain village and ski resortof Bukovel. (B)Day 4 Yaremche to ChernivtsiDrive via Kolomiya to Chernivtsi andcheck in to Hotel Bukovyna for 1 night. InKolomiya visit Pysanka Museum – a fancifulegg shaped building, which stands 12metres tall and houses the world’s largestcollection of hand-painted Easter eggs, forwhich Ukraine is known. We also include avisit to the Museum of Hutsul Folk Art andits displays of intricately handmade Hutsulclothing, recreations of Hutsul dwellings andnumerous regional Carpathian ceramics andwoodcarvings. In the afternoon enjoy a citytour of Chernivtsi, including the Byzantinestylered-bricked university and the twistedcupolas of St Nicholas. The city of Chernivtsiis located in the foothills of the CarpathianMountains, on the banks of the River Prut.The town is an old outpost of the HabsburgEmpire and had a large Armenian, Jewish andGerman population. This, combined with thewide variety of architectural styles, gives thecity a more relaxed and southern feel thanother Ukrainian cities. (B)Day 5 Chernivtsi to KamenetsPodilskyDrive to Kamenets Podilsky, one of the oldestcities in Ukraine. Sights here, include thecastle, Armenian Quarter and Cathedral ofPeter and Paul. Transfer to Hotel Halychynafor overnight stay. (B)Day 6 Kamenets Podilsky to LvivTransfer back to Lviv including an excursionen route to the impressive Pochaiv Monasteryand the village of Pidkamin. Pidkamin isa picturesque village with a wonderfulBaroque church. The Dominican Monasteryin Pidkamin was turned into an asylum by theSoviets and has just recently been given backto the church (though part of it still belongsto the psychiatric hospital). Drive to Lviv andtransfer to Hotel Euro or Hotel Opera for 2nights. (B)Day 7 LvivFree day to explore Lviv at leisure or bookoptional excursions. (B)Day 8 Lviv to UKTransfer to the airport for flight back to theUK.
