<strong>Operating</strong> <strong>Budget</strong> — Details18Law School<strong>Cornell</strong> Law School is one of the top law schools inthe country, combining inspiring theoretical, doctrinal,and experiential teaching with cutting-edgescholarship in a supportive, intellectually richcommunity. Graduates achieve excellence in allfacets of the legal profession.The Law School is consistently recognized for thequality of its faculty, both in scholarly productivityand influence. <strong>Cornell</strong> Law currently employs 51full-time professorial positions. Faculty members arecontacted daily to comment on news of the day inrelation to their areas of expertise, and their researchis increasingly reaching broader audiences, impactingpolicy and legal thought at the highest levels.Faculty members are consistently engaged withdepartments throughout <strong>Cornell</strong> <strong>University</strong>, includingeconomics, philosophy, literature, andanthropology. The Law School is building andmaintaining close ties to the ILR School, JohnsonSchool, and <strong>Cornell</strong> NYC Tech regarding labor law,entrepreneurship, venture capital, intellectualproperty, and the like.<strong>Cornell</strong> Law School is intentionally among thesmallest of the elite law schools, and this remains adefining feature. In 2012-13, the school maintainedan enrollment of 586 professional degree studentsand 100 graduate students, including 16 who arestudying for a Doctor of the Science of Law (JSD)degree. In <strong>2013</strong>-<strong>14</strong>, enrollment is expected to remainconsistent with recent years.The Law School introduced a new leadership position,welcoming a new Associate Dean for InternationalAffairs who continues to expand study abroad opportunities—nowto 24 leading universities aroundthe world.Clinical, advocacy, and skills programs continue toexpand with the launch of a new Juvenile JusticeClinic. The new clinic, which consists of eight students,three faculty members, and one fellow, assistsjuvenile defendants facing life sentences.<strong>Cornell</strong>’s Legal Information Institute (LII), the preeminentconveyor of web-based legal informationin the world, and consistently the most visited sitewithin all of <strong>Cornell</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s web properties,celebrated its twentieth anniversary by hosting theLaw Via the Internet Conference in the fall of 2012.After many years of planning, the Law School iswell underway on Phase 1 of a multi-phased projectto renovate and expand the physical plant of theschool. This much-needed addition is the first in 25years, and the new state-of-the-art teaching wing willbe ready for students with the spring 20<strong>14</strong> semester.This past fiscal year was the most successfulfundraising year in the history of the Law Schoolwith a $25 million anonymous gift in addition to$6.5 million in other gifts. The Law School has alsoreached 103.7% of its goal for the <strong>Cornell</strong> Nowcampaign, raising $36.3 million for the extendedcampaign expansion (the 5+ year period from July2010 through December 2015).The Law School anticipates growth in the fields ofintellectual property, business law, empirical studies,and international and comparative law. Led bythe Clarke Business Law Institute, the school haslaunched several new deals and transactional lawcourses featuring collaborations between full-timefaculty and leading practitioners, providing breadthand immediacy to the curriculum. The new Law andEconomics Program held its first annual EmpiricalPatent Law Conference at Myron Taylor Hall in thefall of 2012.Samuel Curtis Johnson GraduateSchool of ManagementThe Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School ofManagement’s mission is to develop business leaderswho create, transform, and sustain successfulorganizations around the world; generate researchand scholarship that shape the future practice ofmanagement; and train the next generation ofbusiness scholars.Johnson’s new Dean, Soumitra Dutta, has articulated
