JOINT SUCCESSINVOLVING STAKEHOLDERS€171 mis <strong>RTE</strong>’s financial contributionto the construction of the PACAsafety net.€236 mis the total investment for deployingthe programme in the upper valleyof the Durance.A RACE AGAINST TIME TO RESTORE POWERIN NORTHERN FRANCE / On the night of 4 March <strong>2012</strong>,extremely heavy snowfall caused widespread electricity outagesin the Lille metropolis <strong>and</strong> the Maubeuge region <strong>and</strong> broughtdown the overhead wires on the high-speed Paris-Lille TGV line.Four priority intervention groups dispatched from Béthune,Valenciennes, Reims <strong>and</strong> Rouen, supported by engineering <strong>and</strong>maintenance teams <strong>and</strong> specialists in helicopter operations,worked round the clock to restore power as quickly as possible<strong>and</strong> enable rail traffic to resume.SETTING UP A SAFETY NET IN THE PACA REGION /The eastern part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regionproduces only 10% of the electricity that it consumes, <strong>and</strong>it is served by a single 400 kV line. In the event of an outage,the 225 kV network is unable to ensure the continuity of supply.To strengthen the network, the construction of a hundredkilometresafety net was begun in <strong>2012</strong>: when it is commissionedin 2015, the safety net will consolidate electricity supplyto the region <strong>and</strong> its 2 million inhabitants until 2030, whilealso facilitating the growth of renewable energies.<strong>RTE</strong> | IN LINE WITH THE FUTURE65
