Tuesday, 9 August, 2004Dr Safet HalilovicMinister for Social Affairs and CommunicationMrs Nada MusterBiographySafet Halilovic was born on 3 April 1951 in Sarajevo .He graduated from the Sarajevo University's department of Social Studies in1974 . In 1988, he obtained a doctorate degree in politics .From 1990 to 1992 Halilovic was the President of the executive board of thecultural association of Bosnian Muslims "Renaissance" . From 1995 to 1998,Halilovic was the director of the Bosniak Cultural Centre in Sarajevo . His earlypolitical career was closely_ connected to the Party of Democratic Action(S.D.A .), but he was one of the first members to abandon the party and joinHaris Silajdzic's Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina (S.BiH . - currently in theGovernment) .In May 1996 he was the Secretary General at the party's headquarters and in2001 he became the president of the executive board of the Party for BiH .Halilovic was elected to be a member of the BiH Federation House ofRepresentatives in 1996, 1998 and 2000 . There he served as a member ofthe Law-making Commission and as a president of the Commission forDefence and Security . He also served a two-year term as Minister ofEducation, Science and Information in the Government of the SarajevoCanton . In early 2001, Halilovic became Vice-president of the Federation ofBiH .From January - December 2002, Halilovic was the President of the Federationof BiH . Since December 2002 Halilovic has been the BiH Minister of CivilAffairs and Communications .Halilovic holds a teaching post at the University of Sarajevo, Department ofPolitics . He lectures on topics such as political parties and organizations,history of diplomacy and strategy, and national security .During his university and political career, Halilovic has published severalbooks, studies, essays and articles .Halilovic is married with three children .Meeting summaryBiH was a medieval state .
