She is also SecretaryGeneral of the Victimology Society of Serbia . She has worked on projectsconcerned with different forms of human rights violations : domestic violence,human trafficking and women's rights .The Victimology Society of Serbia was founded in 1997 . V.S.S . is working onthe proposal of changes of Criminal Law and the Law on criminal procedure toimprove the position of crime victims within the Serbian legal system .Also, V.S.S . work on raising awareness of professionals and the public aboutvictimology and victim's rights and monitoring the position of crime victimsbefore national courts . The Victimology Society of Serbia also monitors theways of protecting the rights of victims and witnesses before I .C .T.Y .The V.S.S . also organise panels and lectures on victim's rights and isplanning to organize conferences on regular basis . V.S.S . also plans toestablish a victims' support service in Serbia .Meeting summaryMs Copic outlined how the organisation was set up and what were its aims . Itwas a non profit, non government agency established in 1997 primarily aimedat protecting victims' and victims' rights . They have approximately 100members and were members of the World Society of Victims . Attempts werebeing made to improve the victim's position in the criminal justice system,particularly for serious crimes such as domestic violence and humantrafficking . Within the judicial system the victim rather than being considereda victim was referred to as the injured party, an expression used in legislation .When serious crimes are committed they are questioned as witnesses and donot have a broad range of rights available to them, the victim only seen as asource of evidence with no rights to be informed about the case They wouldlike to start a victim support service because they are usually frightened anddo not know what to say or do . There are no separate rooms for offenders,therefore the victims suffer intimidation which has a strong impact on them .There is also an absence of closed circuit television or screens to protect thevictimsThings are beginning to change as the judiciary becomes more open . funding constraints they are primarily able to provide victims with informationover the phone, personal contact only comes after 2-3 calls . They werecurrently involved in a campaign against domestic violence . A MOU with theBelgrade police had been signed and they also worked closely with welfareorganisations .Their projects are funded and carried out in conjunction with internationalorganisations OSCE, the American Bar Association and the InternationalAssociation for Migration and Development .One shelter existed for female victims of domestic violence in Belgrade andthey were trying to set up a network to work with the police in addition tosetting up a shelter for women victims of human trafficking . Rumanian womentended to end up in Kosovo because of the presence of military personnel .The most recent initiative was working with Reconciliation and a conferencewas to be held to establish which model would fit the former Yugoslavia andthe different ethnic and religious groupsTravel Report, Hon.
