She’s spoiled, andwe’ve kept it up," Ms. Gale said jokingly.Mrs. Raynor remembers when Angier Methodist Church held services in a white house onDunn Street in Angier. She and her family later lived in the house after the church relocated toa larger facility.Married to James Broughton Raynor in 1928, Raynor had three children, Julia Thomas,Martha Gale and Kent Raynor, who died <strong>of</strong> cancer several years ago. Her daughter-in-law,Wandra Raynor, co-hosted her birthday party. Julia was named after Mrs. Raynor’s motherand Martha after her husband’s mother. Mrs. Raynor now has eight grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren,and two great-great-grandchildren.A hip injury sent her to Oak Hill Living Center after living at home for 98 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Broughton Raynor andher son, Ira Kent Raynor. She was an only child, born to Julia Pollard <strong>Dupree</strong> <strong>of</strong> Coats and Ira<strong>Dupree</strong> <strong>of</strong> Willow Spring, on January 18, 1905.Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Angier United Methodist Churchwith Eastern Star Rites. Burial to follow in the Angier Memorial Cemetery.Survivors include her children, Julia R. Thomas <strong>of</strong> New Bern, Martha R. Gale <strong>of</strong> Angier, anddaughter-in-law, Mrs. Kent Raynor (Wandra) <strong>of</strong> Angier; grandchildren, Kathy Welch Parkerand husband, Greg <strong>of</strong> Tarboro, Kimsey Welch and wife, Renee' <strong>of</strong> New Bern, Rick Raynorand wife, Terry <strong>of</strong> Raleigh, Adam Raynor and wife, Julie <strong>of</strong> Willow Spring, Dona Raynor <strong>of</strong>Venice, CA, Robbie Gale and Penny, <strong>of</strong> Rawlings, WY, Kenny Gale <strong>of</strong> Rawlings, WY, JamieSauls Brannon and husband, Keith <strong>of</strong> Greer, SC, Jane Thomas Choate and husband, Ron <strong>of</strong>Jacksonville, Ann Pittman and husband, Steve <strong>of</strong> Richmond, VA, Robbie Thomas and Cynthia<strong>of</strong> Fayetteville, NC; great-grandchildren, Corie, Caleb, Cody and Tony Gale, Matthew Parker,Kyle Brannon, Jake Welch, Madison, Trevor, and Tanner Raynor, Alex and Jarod Raynor,Jane Claire Choate and husband Chris, Stacey Cowardin, Brandon Cowardin and wife, Mila,Rachel and Sarah Thomas; great-great-grandchildren, Raghan, Allie, Logan and soon to beLuke; special cousins, Louis <strong>Dupree</strong> and Maxine Adams Gardner.Mrs. Raynor was a long-time Angier homemaker and landmark. She was visible daily,walking throughout town from store to store making her way to the post <strong>of</strong>fice and back homeafter stopping by to sww her son, Kent at Angier Paint. Her longevity has been contributed tothis daily exercise routine as she said, "get up every morning and dress to go somewhere, andmost important <strong>of</strong> all, have young friends to drive you places." Mrs. Raynor was Angier'sWoman <strong>of</strong> the Year, 1997-1998. She was known for visiting and continually doinf for friends140
