It is a major step forward,leading to futuristic optical technologies that incorporatequantum effects. The measurement equipments andoptics are different from those in photonics and opticalcommunications. This effort will produce high impact Tier1 papers and enables Malaysia to acquire the rapidlyadvancing state-<strong>of</strong>- the-art quantum science andtechnology.<strong>Research</strong>ers from quantum and ultrafast laserscience group will assemble the equipments forconducting novel research ideas. PIs andcollaborators in UM, postgraduate students, andpostdoc will be the users who will benefit from theequipments for studying quantum properties <strong>of</strong>photons and spectroscopic properties <strong>of</strong> atoms andmolecules. These equipments will enable UM todevelop the state <strong>of</strong> the art expertise in quantumand laser research, and promote interdisciplinaryresearch topics that will produce publications in Tier1 journals such as Physical Review Letters, NaturePhotonics. At least 5 PhD and 3 MSc students will betrained using these instruments.These ceqyipments are connected to construct noveloptical experimentations involving photons andatoms.
