Access to RTÉ.ie via mobilesis driving new audiences and over 2% oftraffic comes from mobiles.2007 was a dynamic year fuelled byinnovative developments across the website.The year commenced with a redesign ofRTÉ.ie resulting in improved navigationand layout of content. Commercial revenuealmost doubled year-on-year, drivenby increased industry spend on Onlineadvertising and better display positions onRTÉ.ie, in addition to sponsorship of eventsand content categories. Video ads aroundvideo clips were launched on the websitein June.A number of new sites were also launchedin 2007 including RTÉGuide.ie, RTÉ.ie/jobs, RTÉ.ie/food and a Six Nations rugbywebsite. Other developments includedenhancements to existing services suchas the launch of live streaming of all RTÉNews and Current Affairs programmes onRTÉ.ie; live streaming of Eircom Leaguematches.A number of dedicated event-drivenwebsites, covering significant events,included the General Election (5.2m pageimpressions), the 2007 GAA Championship(6m page impressions) and the RugbyWorld Cup, complete with Fantasy Rugbyleague (over 1m page impressions). Finallyin December there was a dedicated websitefor Budget 2008.ContentPodcasts became more popular in 2007,from approximately 40 podcasts achieving70,000 downloads in January to 77 podcastsachieving 880,000 downloads in December.A number of podcasts became regularfeatures in the Top 10 on the iTunes charts.RTÉ SMS alerts were launched in Maycovering Breaking News, Business andEntertainment in addition to Racing Tips,Weather and Lotto alerts. Event specificalerts were set up to bring up-to-the minutenews and results from the General Election,Rugby World Cup and 2008 Budget.During 2007 RTÉ launched two MobileTV channels. RTÉ Entertainment, waslaunched in May giving customers ofthe mobile network 3 the opportunity tocatch-up on highlights from a selectionof RTÉ Entertainment programmes suchas The Late Late Show, Tubridy Tonightand No Frontiers, on their mobile phones.In September, an RTÉ News Mobile TVChannel was launched featuring the 1, 6and 9 O’Clock bulletins live and looped.RTÉ AertelIn 2007 RTÉ Aertel was extended to amulti-platform information service availableon Television, Online and on mobile. Each weekly issue delivers amix of premium listings, informative andlifestyle based content and articles from ‘theinside track’ in the entertainment world.The RTÉ Guide is positioned in the premiumsector as a quality TV weekly magazine andis unique in its position as a family magazine.Since the launch of RTÉGuide.ie in July2007, the site has attracted a new audienceworldwide introducing them to the brand andthe content of the magazine, allowing themto interact and respond Online.A clear lifestyle focus and a 10-day lifecycleper issue allows the RTÉ Guide to offeradvertisers a relevant and effective vehiclein which to advertise. In addition to thecore magazine, the RTÉ Guide publishedadditional lifestyle magazines in the Food,Home and Fashion genres as well as addedvalue products such as the interactiveDawn Chorus CD-ROM, the Christmas CDfeaturing the RTÉ Concert Orchestra andCor na nÓg and the RTÉ Weather Calendarand Weather wallchart, all of which werecirculated with the magazine.Source: RTÉIn December 2007 RTÉ Aertel Digitalbegan playing out live on the DTT (DigitalTerrestrial Television) trial, and initial userfeedback reports a faster, more intuitiveand better-designed service.
