This meeting was attendedby Mary Finan (Chairman), MariaKillian, Ian Malcolm and StephenO’Byrnes (full attendance).Paddy MarronPaddy was appointed to theAuthority with effect from 21June 2005. He also servedon the previous Authority thatcompleted its term of office on31 May 2005. He worked in thefood industry for 33 years; firstlywith Rowntree Mackintosh inIreland and, for the ten yearsup to his retirement, as ChiefExecutive of Nestlé Ireland.He was Chairman of the Foodand Drink Federation of IBECfor a number of years, as wellas a member of the NationalExecutive of IBEC. He isalso a mentor in the MentorProgramme of EnterpriseIreland.He is a chartered accountantand holds a B.A. in Archaeologyand Art History from UCD.Authority AttendanceÚna Ní ChonaireÚna was appointed to the RTÉAuthority with effect from 21June 2005. She works withGlór na nGael in Rath Cairn,Co. Meath. She is a fluentIrish speaker and contributesoccasionally to RTÉ Raidió naGaeltachta.In her spare time, Úna helpschildren improve their Irish andplays camogie, gaelic footballand rugby.There were eight Authority meetings held in 2007 attended as follows:Mary Finan 8Emer Finnan 7Maria Killian 8Patricia King 7Dr. Ian Malcolm 8Joe O’BrienJoe was appointed to the RTÉAuthority with effect from 14September 2005. He is anRTÉ News Correspondentspecialising in Agriculture,Food and Defence. Hepreviously served as IndustryCorrespondent. He also haswide experience in the coverageof European affairs, Third Worldissues and politics. He toppedthe poll in an internal electionheld amongst staff to select acandidate for consideration byGovernment for appointment tothe Authority.Before he joined RTÉ in1979, he studied Journalismat the College of Commerce,Rathmines, Dublin and workedfor newspapers in Navan and inhis native Carlow.Paddy Marron 8Úna Ní Chonaire 5Joe O’Brien 8Stephen O’Byrnes 7Stephen O’ByrnesStephen was appointed to theAuthority with effect from 21June 2005. He also servedon the previous Authority thatcompleted its term of office on31 May 2005. A PR/PublicAffairs consultant, Stephen isExecutive Director of MediaRelations & Public AffairsConsultants Ltd. During theperiod 1986 to 1995, heworked as Director of Policyand Press Relations for theProgressive Democrats Partyand was Assistant GovernmentPress Secretary from 1989 to1992. Prior to that, he workedas a journalist for 15 years,with the Irish Independentand the Irish Press Group,holding various editorial andcorrespondent posts.He holds a B.A. in Modern IrishHistory from UCD.Audit CommitteeThere were ten meetings duringthe year, with full attendanceat each meeting. The increasein the number of meetings inthe current year is due to theadoption of IFRS. This resultedin specific training for committeemembers, further meetings toconsider the impact of IFRS onthe 2008 budget and additionaltime being devoted to consideringthe revisions to the accountingpolicies.Paddy Marron (Chairman), EmerFinnan and Patricia King attendedthe three meetings held prior toa change in the membership ofthe committee. Paddy Marron(Chairman), Emer Finnan andMaria Killian attended the sevenmeetings held subsequent to thischange.Programme CommitteeThere were three meetings of theProgramme Committee during2007.Maria Killian (Chairman), IanMalcolm and Úna Ni Chonaireattended the first meeting of thecommittee (full attendance).
