May 31 [<strong>Jennie</strong>]Left camp about half past seven stopped for dinner north <strong>of</strong> RR seen two antilope rode on Flecher from thisforenoon past Spring Stacion after dinner traveled over very bad roads camped at Julesburgh tonight Stonedepot <strong>and</strong> a couple <strong>of</strong> houses seen between one <strong>and</strong> two thous<strong>and</strong> head <strong>of</strong> cattle Rhoades camped quarter <strong>of</strong>a mile from ......June 1 [<strong>Kate</strong>]Sunday: Another Sunday spent traveling. And oh! What a lonely Sunday it has been. have been trudgingalong all day. Father bought a horse <strong>and</strong> wagon today <strong>and</strong> divided our load which gives us much moreroom. Passed a couple <strong>of</strong> horses some cattle <strong>and</strong> the remainder <strong>of</strong> the ( ) s<strong>and</strong>y <strong>and</strong> dry less prairie withsome s<strong>and</strong> hills took dinner on Pole Creek traveled close to it all afternoon <strong>and</strong> camped on it in the eveningstopped about four O’clock <strong>and</strong> expect stop tomorrow <strong>and</strong> wash.June 1 [<strong>Jennie</strong>]Passed a large herd <strong>of</strong> horses half mile west <strong>of</strong> Julesburgh seen a couple thous<strong>and</strong> head <strong>of</strong> cattle took dinnerhalf mile west <strong>of</strong> a section house Frank Frost took dinner with us very cold <strong>and</strong> stormy this forenoonPleasant after dinner bought a horse <strong>and</strong> wagon I drove all afternoon stoped four oclockJune 2 [<strong>Kate</strong>]Monday: Nothing <strong>of</strong> importance has happened today. We all have washed. Wood is very scarce but havefound sufficient Water is plenty <strong>and</strong> good. The men as usual went hunting <strong>and</strong> as usual returned withnothing. A boy <strong>of</strong> fourteen tried it <strong>and</strong> returned with an antilope it was quite a treatJune 2 [<strong>Jennie</strong>]Staid in camp to day has been a very pretty day washed <strong>and</strong> baked today worked all day <strong>and</strong> tired tonightJoe Lowry killed an antilope this evening Mother had tooth ache today camped in Colorado south <strong>of</strong> RailRoad on Pole Creek chilly this eve going to bed early must put the meat on to boil for breakfastJune 3 [<strong>Kate</strong>]Tuesday: Left camp about eight O’clock traveled about ten miles <strong>and</strong> stopped for dinner on Pole Creek.There was a train <strong>of</strong> wagons going to Colorado <strong>and</strong> Montanna stopped near us. There was several withbuggys on the train. We then traveled about ten miles to Sidney where we met some old friends fromChautauqua County Bartons family. <strong>Jennie</strong> <strong>and</strong> I staid with family for supper had a very pleasant time. Aftersupper we all went to where the wagons had camped which was about a mile from town. We heard the b<strong>and</strong>which was quite a treat. After we arrived at camp Fletch Taylor favored us with music on the violin several<strong>of</strong> the group sang songs our friends then returned home <strong>and</strong> we were left feeling much revived over theirvisit.
