July 2 [<strong>Jennie</strong>]Wednesday. We had quite a shower this morning did not leave camp till nine o’clock would have had goodroads had it not been for the rain took dinner on the bank <strong>of</strong> Muddy a little ways from Carter a small towncamped for the night on the RR. have a very pretty place Mother had a chill I baked this morning had badluckJuly 3 [<strong>Kate</strong>]Thursday:We left our camping ground <strong>and</strong> traveled up Muddy <strong>and</strong> the R. R. a short distance then crossed to the North<strong>and</strong> left them South <strong>of</strong> us. Came to a fork <strong>of</strong> a road Three wagons took the right h<strong>and</strong> side the remainder theleft which took us to Peidmont a town on the R. R. where we laid in some supplys we went a short distancefrom there traveling about two miles <strong>and</strong> stopped for dinner. Followed the R. R. <strong>and</strong> passed Aspin <strong>and</strong>Hilliard both small towns on the R. R. camped about a mile <strong>and</strong> a half West <strong>of</strong> Hilliard in a very pretty placeon a small stream the name not known. Harry is quite sick with a chill this afternoon.July 3 [<strong>Jennie</strong>]Thursday: We crossed the RR <strong>and</strong> traveled about eight miles to the forks <strong>of</strong> the road the Lowrys <strong>and</strong> .....took the right h<strong>and</strong> road we took the left <strong>and</strong> went to a town called Pedemont seen the first lumbermen Ihave seen since we left P. [Pennsylvania] took dinner at a pond south <strong>of</strong> RR a couple miles west <strong>of</strong> townpassed a town called Aspin camped ( ) mi west <strong>of</strong> Hillard on Sulphur Creek.July 4 [<strong>Kate</strong>]Friday:We left Sulphur Creek this morning crossed Bear River <strong>and</strong> traveled twelve miles to Evanston a right prettytown where met the three wagons we left yesterday. There they are celebrating the Fourth. I heard a b<strong>and</strong>play <strong>and</strong> stopped in town long enough to see them promenade the street being enough to make me almosthome sick to think <strong>of</strong> the way I am spending the Fourth. Stopped for dinner half mile West <strong>of</strong> town on a hillwhere the wind blew the s<strong>and</strong> over every thing. After dinner we traveled one mile <strong>and</strong> camped on YellowCreek in a very pretty place <strong>and</strong> spent the remainder <strong>of</strong> the day in talking <strong>of</strong> the past present <strong>and</strong> future.July 4 [<strong>Jennie</strong>]We left Sulpher Creek early this morning crossed Bear River a very pretty stream passed some ..... got intocamp <strong>and</strong> ate the same time that our ..... did camped for dinner at half mile west <strong>of</strong> town in a fearfull placethen we went a mi further <strong>and</strong> camped the rest.......
