Pitt County Planning Jurisdiction (Map A-1)The NC General Assembly establishes local governments and determines the scope of localgovernment services, that is, local governments must have legislative grant of power beforedealing with any particular issues. Under the planning authority granted by the GeneralAssembly, Pitt County is authorized to study and plan for growth and to develop a land useplan for the County’s planning jurisdiction.The Pitt County Planning Jurisdiction consists of the total acreage of the County outside theplanning and zoning jurisdictions (corporate limits plus extraterritorial planning jurisdictions) ofthe ten incorporated municipalities.
