Market shares of generic medicines in terms of value of consumptionhave decreased from 39.3% in 1994 to 29.7% in 2004 as a result of falling prices of genericmedicines. This has been accompanied by increased volume of consumption of genericmedicines, with market shares rising from 61.3% in 1994 to 69.7% in 2004.Figure 1.
