The startingpoint of the photographs is found materialfrom magazines, books, album covers,iPad issues or e-books on Kindle readersas well as her collection of existing poemsby contemporary authors and languagepictures of concrete poetry. In a meticulous,time-consuming, subjective search process,Czech finds poems that exist in textmaterial and makes them visible throughmarkings. Czech photographs the textpages and objects she has prepared andpresents them as full-scale photoswith a consciously selected pictureexcerpt and format.Czech´s new series ‘Poems by Repetition’presented at LISTE18 refers to GertrudeStein’s ‘petition’ for the principle of repetition.The concept of repetition in the sense ofStein is a dynamic and process-related formof representing narrative content. Repetitionproduces a tonal composition movingin space, similar to a song and its recurringrefrains. Czech has selected poems thatare characterized by the rhetoricalstylistic device of repetition, found in textsby authors like Aram Saroyan, Hart Crane,Yunte Huang or Tan Lin. The number ofindividual photographs of a group is definedby the found poem and its respectiverhetorical stylistic device of repetition.The poems only become completely visibleand readable through the depictionof the respectively same photographed textmaterial and the repeated stringingtogether of the individual photographs toone group.Natalie Czech’s (*1976 GER) works havebeen shown in renowned museum exhibitionsas at ‘Made in Germany’, Sprengel MuseumHannover (2012) or ‘Anfang gut. Alles gut’at Kunsthaus Bregenz (2011). In 2013,her new series ‘Poems by Repetition’ will beincluded in her solo exhibitions atKunstverein Hamburg (july) and KunstvereinBraunschweig (september).
