THE PARK FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS (Ages 4–6)<br />
Do <strong>the</strong> Park <strong>the</strong> pre-school way! Spend time with an<br />
<strong>in</strong>terpreter who will take you to <strong>the</strong> Ottewell farm to see<br />
some farm animals. Look <strong>in</strong>side a farm kitchen from <strong>the</strong><br />
olden days, try some toys that children used to play with<br />
a long time ago, and make homemade juice and ice cream.<br />
F<strong>in</strong>ish <strong>the</strong> field trip <strong>of</strong>f yourself with a picnic or playtime<br />
at Gyro Park.<br />

FUR TRADE FORT TOUR (Ages 7–17)<br />
Children didn’t go to school? Boys were treated as men<br />
at age 14? You’ll learn <strong>the</strong> answers to <strong>the</strong>se questions and<br />
more when you visit <strong>the</strong> trad<strong>in</strong>g post, <strong>the</strong> homes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
labourers, and <strong>the</strong> mansion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> big man <strong>in</strong> charge!<br />
You’ll see costumed <strong>in</strong>terpreters liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> life <strong>of</strong> fur<br />
traders and take part <strong>in</strong> hands-on fur trad<strong>in</strong>g activities too.<br />
This program complements a self-guided visit to <strong>the</strong> Park.<br />

Choose a fur trade or pioneer <strong>the</strong>me that is full <strong>of</strong> active<br />
historic fun!<br />
Fur Trade Option: bake bannock, build a model tipi or<br />
travois, play Aborig<strong>in</strong>al games and try some bead<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
Pioneer Option: make ice cream or candy, build a simple<br />
toy, play pioneer field games and go on a scavenger hunt.<br />

FORT EDMONTON PARK SLEEPOVER (Ages 8 & up)<br />
Wake up to <strong>the</strong> historic scenery <strong>of</strong> Fort <strong>Edmonton</strong> Park and<br />
see our city as <strong>the</strong> early residents <strong>of</strong> <strong>Edmonton</strong> viewed it. An<br />
<strong>in</strong>terpreter will provide your group with a variety <strong>of</strong> learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
experiences catered to your needs. In addition, you can cook<br />
your meals over <strong>the</strong> hearth or a wood-burn<strong>in</strong>g stove.<br />
Option 1: Fur Trade Overnight<br />
Build your own fur trade experience by choos<strong>in</strong>g from a<br />
host <strong>of</strong> activities. The activities can <strong>in</strong>clude bead<strong>in</strong>g, journal<br />
writ<strong>in</strong>g with stick pen & <strong>in</strong>k, Aborig<strong>in</strong>al games, build<strong>in</strong>g<br />
a model tipi or travois, handl<strong>in</strong>g artifacts, campfire with<br />
historical storytell<strong>in</strong>g, fur bal<strong>in</strong>g, bannock mak<strong>in</strong>g, lantern<br />
tour, scavenger hunts or snowshoe<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
Option 2: Pioneer Overnight<br />
Roll back <strong>in</strong> time to <strong>the</strong> Pioneer days. Activities can <strong>in</strong>clude<br />
historical role play<strong>in</strong>g, candle mak<strong>in</strong>g, bak<strong>in</strong>g, toy build<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
lantern tour, campfire with historical storytell<strong>in</strong>g, pioneer<br />
games and snowshoe<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Groups stay<strong>in</strong>g later than <strong>the</strong> departure time will be<br />
charged an additional $30/hr or part <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong>. Those book<strong>in</strong>g<br />
between May 19 – August 31, <strong>2012</strong> and wish to visit <strong>the</strong> Park<br />
on <strong>the</strong>ir own after <strong>the</strong> overnight experience must pay selfguided<br />
admission fees for time spent <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Park after 11 am.<br />
35
