John Janzen Nature Centre<br />

PRAIRIE POND<br />

Exam<strong>in</strong>e pond life up close. This small pond next to <strong>the</strong><br />

Nature Centre attracts ducks, blackbirds and frogs <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

spr<strong>in</strong>g and summer.<br />

BACKYARD COMPOST EDUCATION CENTRE<br />

This outdoor exhibit demonstrates how you can <strong>in</strong>corporate<br />

compost<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to your waste disposal rout<strong>in</strong>e. Learn <strong>the</strong><br />

compost<strong>in</strong>g process and sample compost<strong>in</strong>g units designed<br />

for large and small yards.<br />

ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS AND FEEDINGS<br />

* Daily at 11 am <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exhibit Room<br />

Meet some <strong>of</strong> our local amphibian and reptile species up<br />

close. If you’re lucky you may get to watch a salamander,<br />

frog, or snake eat its lunch!<br />

* Note: There will be no scheduled animal encounter<br />

on Thursdays <strong>in</strong> July and August.<br />

GUIDED WALKS<br />

Mon. Wed. Fri. and Sat. at 1 pm - Meet<strong>in</strong>g Spot: Fire pit<br />

Jo<strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>terpreter for an engag<strong>in</strong>g guided walk <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> trails<br />

surround<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> nature centre.<br />

• July-August: Trees Just Want to Have Fungi!<br />

Nature Play<br />

Get active and have fun with nature! Play games, make<br />

music and use your imag<strong>in</strong>ation while tak<strong>in</strong>g part <strong>in</strong> this<br />

new program at <strong>the</strong> John Janzen Nature Centre. Locations<br />

<strong>of</strong> activities may change due to <strong>in</strong>clement wea<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

Fairies <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Forest<br />

Fairies, gnomes and sprites are rarely seen <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> forests<br />

around <strong>the</strong> nature centre, but you might tempt <strong>the</strong>m to<br />

appear by build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong>ir very own house.<br />

July<br />

Sounds <strong>of</strong> Nature<br />

Create music as part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Outdoor Orchestra, s<strong>in</strong>g animal<br />

action songs and learn how to identify wild animal calls.<br />

August<br />
