1.3.4. System ArchitectureA diagram of the system architecture is located in Appendix B.1.3.5. System UsersOver 100 headquarters users will access DOCS. The DOCS System Administratorwill have full access rights within DOCS. All other user types will have specificaccess rights to individual modules and tables. Within each module, users will beallowed to perform specific functions and operations based on their rights.1.4. Document OverviewThis Configuration Management Plan (CMP) sets forth the policy, procedures andprocesses used to accomplish CM for DOCS. As the project matures, appropriatesections of this plan will require periodic updating. Updates will be reflected in adocument change page and within the plan by a change bar in the outer margin of thetext, adjacent to the updated information. (Note: change bars will only indicate thosechanges, that came into effect since the previous version of the document.) The CMP isorganized as follows:• Section 1- Introduction: Describes the purpose of the CMP, the DOCS SystemOverview, the Document Overview, and the Referenced Documents.• Section 2 - Configuration Management Organization: Describes the DOCSProject Organization, SCM Roles and Responsibilities, and the SCM Environment,which includes CMB organization and responsibilities, CM Policy and Procedures,and SCM Methodology and Tools.• Section 3 - Configuration Identification: Provides a description of categories ofCIs, CI Identifiers, Baseline Management, DOCS CM Libraries, and System Release.• Section 4 - Configuration Control: Describes Change Control, the SCR , SCRProcessing, the Change Tracking System, and Version Control.• Section 5 - Configuration Status Accounting: Discusses the process for collectingand reporting the status of CIs.• Section 6 - Configuration Audits and Reviews: Describes the audits and reviews tobe conducted on CIs and system components during the system life cycle.• Section 7 - Archive and Retrieval: describes record retention and archiving.Docsscb5c.doc Page 6 of 93 2/23/2007
• Section 8 – Backup and Restore: describes the procedures for backing up andrestoring of data.• Section 9 – Records Collection and Retention: describes record collection andretention procedures.• Section 10 - Sub-Contractor and Vendor Control: describes sub-contractor andvendor control roles in configuration management.• Appendix A – DOCS Configuration Management Board Charter: establishes theConfiguration Management Board.• Appendix B – DOCS System Configuration Drawings: contains systemarchitecture drawings.• Appendix C – Software Change Request: contains a sample of the System ChangeRequest Form and a sample of the User’s request for a SCR form.• Appendix D – Software Change Request Log: an example of the System ChangeRequest Log that tracks System Change Requests.• Appendix E – Help Desk Procedures: describes the help desk policy andprocedures.• Appendix F – Acronyms and Abbreviations: Contains a list of abbreviations andacronyms users throughout this Configuration Management Plan.• Appendix G – Configuration Library: contains a copy of the software andhardware configuration items.1.5.
