Ever since 1980, every world record, except for Steve Cram’s 1500 meters in1985, has been set by them. But the double whammy use of oxygentechniques in this way could level theplaying fields.Let me tell you more about the variousways we can tune up the haemoglobinvia the use of Hypobaric techniques andwhat we are doing at the Runaway BaySports Super Centre to facilitate this.We will be the only Sports TrainingCentre in the world to incorporate bothtechniques, that is have Hypo- andHyperbaric chambers. We will be the only Centre in the worldwhere athletes can book in and sleep ataltitude in normal hotel styleaccommodation. And we cater for all sports, in particular, track (there is a 400 metre 8 laneinternational standard tartan track withpacing lights – again a world first),swimming (a 2 metre deep, 50 metrelong, heated, 8 lane stainless steelOlympic pool as well as an indoor 25metre 3 lane facility), road cycling(outside of the Gold Coast withhundreds of kilometres of roads), andmany other sports. Our facilities includea 600 m 2 gymnasium incorporating freeweights, Keiser resistance circuit,Nautilus, the whole range of aerobicequipment, and a Pilates “Gym within aGym” (for stretching), spa, sauna, massage, hydrotherapy, and a fullyequipped sports medicine clinic withphysiotherapists, physiologists, sportsmedicine physicians, plus nutritionists, psychologists and chiropractors. No Sports Training Centre anywhere inthe world, matches us and we intend tocontinue to lead the way.Two of our accommodation lodges willbe fitted with special pump andmonitoring equipment so that theiroccupants can sleep at altitude, up to5,000 metres above sea level, 64 bedsin all.“Sleep High, Train Low” is a trainingprogram that has now been proven inmany places throughout the world as themost effective way of buildinghaemoglobin cells whilst retainingphysical strength.Add to this the effects from theHyperbaric Chamber and, as I say,we’re up with the Ethiopians, Kenyans,Moroccans, Algerians and Mexicans. We have also incorporated a Hypobariccubicle in the gymnasium to allowcyclists and runners to useergonometers and treadmills at altitude(as well we can alter the humidity), so asto give the option of training at altitude ifthey so wish, without the expense andtime needed to travel there. In addition, we have the Hypoxicator, which is a further unit designed both toraise haemoglobin levels and enhancethe capacity of muscle tissue to absorboxygen. This is a 14 day course thathas given us some spectacular results.Lastly there is the Cat Hatch individualHypobaric beds, and both Hypobaricand Hyperbaric tents that we can hireout.Believe me, get onto the Internet andstudy the research. Call us if you need8
more literature. If you are ready to takethe next step, and have the time, comedown to Runaway Bay.If you can’t get down for an extendedperiod, come and see us for aweekend, test out the theory, then workout how, in your particularcircumstances, you can incorporate theuse of oxygen into your programmes.I have no doubt had I been able to usethis stuff pre-1968, I would have won thetwo distance golds at the Mexico CityOlympics instead of finishing flat on myback at the end of the 10K.The fact I ran 6 th in both races cameabout from the four weeks or so I wasable to spend at Font Romeu in thePyrenees. I broke the 2 miles worldrecord, and ran the 2 nd fastest ever10,000m in gale conditions (the windblew our numbers off our singlets it wasso strong) en route to Mexico so theshort time I spent there helped me noend. There is no doubt about it … If you wishto reach the top, you have to incorporateboth methods … or go live in Kenya.9
