The 34 fighter-bomber w<strong>in</strong>g (Jagdbombergeschwader or Jabo G-34) at Memm<strong>in</strong>gen Air<br />
Base ceased operations <strong>in</strong> 2002 and the base was closed <strong>in</strong> 2003. 182 The Tornado fighterbombers<br />
of the 31 st W<strong>in</strong>g (Jabo G-31) at Nörvenich Air Base (the weapons have already<br />
been transferred to Ramste<strong>in</strong> Air Base) will be replaced with non-nuclear capable<br />
Eurofighter (EFA 2000) aircraft <strong>in</strong> 2007–2010. The 33 rd W<strong>in</strong>g (Jabo G-33) at Büchel Air<br />
Base still stores nuclear weapons but will transition to the Eurofighter <strong>in</strong> 2012–2015. 183<br />

Descriptions of nuclear weapons certification <strong>in</strong>spections of non-nuclear NATO countries<br />
are rare, but one such <strong>in</strong>stance <strong>in</strong>volves the German Jabo G-33 at Büchel Air Base. In<br />
April 1996, the same year nuclear weapons were removed from Memm<strong>in</strong>gen Air Base<br />
and Nörvenich Air Base, NATO conducted a Tactical Evaluation (TAV EVAL) at the<br />
base only three months after <strong>US</strong>AFE carried out a full force Site Assistance Visit of the<br />
817 th MUNSS. The JABOG-33 “did a superb job dur<strong>in</strong>g the [TAC EVAL] <strong>in</strong>spection”<br />
and the 817 th MUNSS received an “Excellent” rat<strong>in</strong>g from the TAC EVAL. Accord<strong>in</strong>g<br />
to the 817 MUNSS, the “Jabo G-33 and the 817 MUNSS showed others why our motto is<br />
‘Partners <strong>in</strong> Peace’”: 184<br />
“The GAF [German Air Force] performed superbly dur<strong>in</strong>g the JSSI [Jo<strong>in</strong>t Safety<br />
and Security Inspection] portion of the <strong>in</strong>spection. There [sic] overall<br />
‘Excellence’ rat<strong>in</strong>g is testimony to the hard effort that the Jabo G-33 personnel<br />
