– supporting documents regarding means of subsistence:The following may be accepted as proof of means of subsistence: cash in convertiblecurrency, traveller's cheques, cheque books for a foreign currency account, credit cardsor any other means that guarantees funds in hard currency.The level of means of subsistence shall be proportionate to the length and purpose of thestay, and to the cost of living in the Schengen State or States to be visited. To this end,reference amounts for the crossing of borders shall be determined each year by thenational authorities of the Contracting Parties. *In addition, in support of an application for a short-term or travel visa, applicants mustshow that they are in possession of adequate and valid individual or group travelinsurance to cover any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation formedical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment.Applicants should in principle underwrite insurance in their State of residence. Wherethis is not possible, they should seek to obtain insurance in any other country. If thehost underwrites insurance for the applicant, he should do this in his own place ofresidence.The insurance must be valid throughout the territory of the Member States applying infull the provisions of the Schengen acquis and cover the entire period of the person'sstay.
