5.2 Master: A Master's Degree earned at an accredited college or university; or thecompletion of thirty (30) credits beyond the Baccalaureate Degree in a planned programapproved by an accredited college or university <strong>and</strong> approved by the Board.5.3 fa) "Sixth Year": shall be defmed as certification earned through successfulcompletion by a Teacher with a Masters Degree of a planned program, at an accredited collegeor university, consisting of thirty (30) credits beyond such Masters Degree, at least eighteen (18)of which are in subject or content type courses in one of the following areas <strong>and</strong> are eitherdirectly related to the <strong>Teacher's</strong> current regular assignment or, if not so related, are approved inwriting in advance by the Superintendent:For Elementary TeachersFor Secondary Teachersa. Language Arts (English Literature or Reading) a. English or Readingb. Science (physical <strong>and</strong> natural) b. Sciencec. Social Sciences c. Social Studiesd. Fine Arts d. Mathematicse. Mathematics e. Foreig!J: Lang!J.agesf. Foreign Languages f. Fine Artsg. Library Science/ Media Specialist g. Guidanceh. Special Education h. Library SciencelMedia Specialisti. Physical Education <strong>and</strong>/or Health Sciences i. Special Educationj. Computer Education j. Physical Education <strong>and</strong>/or Health Sciencek. Technology k. Industrial Arts/Home Economics1. Administration 1. Vocational-Amiculturem. Gifted <strong>and</strong> Talented m. Business Educationn. Computer Educationo. Technologyp. AdministrationQ. Gifted <strong>and</strong> Talented(b) Teachers who complete a Master's Degree consisting of at least sixty (60) credits alsoshall be considered to have attained Sixth Year status.(c) This provision shall not be construed to remove Teachers from the Sixth Year<strong>Schedule</strong> who (i) are on the Sixth Year <strong>Schedule</strong> as of June 30, 1989 by virtue of having earnedtheir Sixth Year Certificate in Supervision <strong>and</strong>/or Administration, or (ii) are, as of June 30, 1989,enrolled in a planned program leading to a Sixth Year Certificate in supervision <strong>and</strong>/orAdministration <strong>and</strong> cannot change their program so as to earn a Sixth Year Certificate in asubject area directly related to their assignment in Trumbull without losing credit for coursesalready taken.5.4 Sixth Year Plus Fifteen Credits: Sixth Year Plus Fifteen Credits shall be defmed asa Sixth Year Certificate (or a 60 credit masters) earned in the <strong>Teacher's</strong> area of assignment asprovided in Section 5.4 hereof plus fifteen (15) additional graduate credits earned after theaforementioned Sixth Year Certificate is granted <strong>and</strong> earned in subject or content type coursesdirectly related to the <strong>Teacher's</strong> area of assignment or, if not so related, are approved in advancein writing by the Superintendent.{OO362235.DOC Ver.
