8.7 The Teacher on leave shall notify the Board in writing as soon as possible, but by nolater than May 1, of hislher intent to return to hislher position for the following school year.Failure to do so will result in the loss ofhislher position in the Trumbull School System;8.8 Upon returning from such leave, the Teacher will be assigned to the position occupiedas of hislher last day worked or to another position for which he/she is qualified in the judgmentof the Board;8.9 Notwithst<strong>and</strong>ing any other provision of this Agreement, a Teacher granted a leave ofabsence shall not be exempt from the operation of the layoff procedures set forth in thisAgreement; <strong>and</strong>8.10 Any such leave shall not be considered as an interruption of service for senioritypurposes under Article X of this Agreement.SECTION 1 Multi-School-<strong>Schedule</strong>sARTICLE IXCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT1.1 In arranging schedules for Teachers who are assigned to more than one (1) school, aneffort shall be made to limit the amount of interschool travel. Such Teachers shall be notified ofany changes in their schedules as soon as practicable <strong>and</strong>, where possible, prior to June 15.1.2 Any Teacher required to use hislher own automobile in traveling between schools forthe purpose of performing hislher teaching duty as assigned by the Board or the Superintendentpursuant to paragraph 1.1 above shall be reimbursed for the use of hislher automobile at the rateset by the Internal Revenue Service for business mileage deductions. During each school yearcovered by this Agreement, the IRS rate established as of January 1 prior to the start of school inSeptember shall be paid for the entire school year, <strong>and</strong> any adjustments made by the IRS duringthat year will not be implemented until the following September.SECTION 2 Teacher Assignments2.1 The assignment of Teachers within the school system is the responsibility of theSuperintendent of Schools. In making such assignments, the reasonable requests of the Teacherconcerned shall be considered.2.2 Teachers shall be notified of their programs for the coming year, including theschools to which they will be assigned, their grades <strong>and</strong>/or subjects they will teach <strong>and</strong> anyspecial or unusual classes that they will have, as soon as is practicable <strong>and</strong> under normalcircumstances, not later than June 15. In the event of a change in circumstances or conditionsduring the months of June, July <strong>and</strong> August, such assignment may be changed with promptnotice in writing to the Teacher. Ordinarily such changes would be made for resignations,deaths, promotions <strong>and</strong>/or leaves of absence.2.3 Changes in grade <strong>and</strong>/or subject assignment shall not be effected or announcedwithout prior personal conference with the Teacher involved. Following such conference, thecircumstances shall be communicated to the Teacher in writing <strong>and</strong> the Teacher may appeal suchchange(s) to the Superintendent.{OO362235.DOC Ver. I} 18
