4.1.3 Issue Date of <strong>Contract</strong>In the event there are two or more Teachers with the same effective starting date, the datethe contract was signed by the Superintendent for issuance shall determine retention.4.1.4 <strong>Contract</strong> Signed by TeacherIn the event there are two or more contracts signed by the Superintendent on the samedate, then the contract bearing the earlier date shall determine the more senior Teacher.4.2 PerformanceThe quality of instruction, as determined by the Superintendent, shall be the single mostimportant factor in determining issues relating to retention of non-tenure Teachers.SECTION 5 Tenured TeachersIf attrition, the non-renewal of limited agreements <strong>and</strong> the non-renewal of non-tenuredTeacher contracts are not sufficient to accomplish a reduction in full force, then tenured Teachersshall be issued consideration-of-termination notice in accordance with Section 10-151 b of theConnecticut General Statutes.The criteria for the dismissal of tenured Teachers shall be:5.1 Seniority5.1.1 Continuous ServiceContinuous service is defmed as employment with the Board on the basis ofuninterrupted service since the fIrst day of the most recent hire-in period. Length of continuousservice will not be interrupted or affected by authorized leaves of absence with full or partialpay, or authorized leaves of absence without pay for illness or disability or by interruptions inservice caused by a layoff due to reduction in force when recalled within twenty-four (24)months of the effective date of the layoff, provided that no such interruption in service shallcount toward the attainment of tenure except as required in the Connecticut Teacher Tenure Law.5.1.2 Effective Date of <strong>Contract</strong>The hire-in period shall be determined by the effective starting date on the initialcontract: ".... for the school year beginning, 20_ <strong>and</strong> ending ______20_, subject to the conditions quoted below."5.1.3 Issue Date of <strong>Contract</strong>In the event there are two or more Teachers with the same effective date, the date thecontract was signed by the Superintendent for issuance shall determine retention.5.1.4 <strong>Contract</strong> Signed By Teacher(OO362235.DOC Ver.
