Substitutes will be provided (if available) for absentees in both the secondary <strong>and</strong>elementary schools.SECTION 5 Outside EmploymentThe Board <strong>and</strong> the Association mutually agree that Teachers will engage in no outsideemployment that will impair the effective <strong>and</strong> proper execution of assigned professional duties inthe Trumbull System.SECTION 6 Teacher-Pupil Ratio6.1 It is recognized that the size of academic classes is directly related to quality forinstruction; therefore, the following goals for class sizes are to be strived for:KindergartenGrades 1-12Developmental25 per class28 per class16 per class6.2 The Board's goal in physical education classes will be a maximum of forty (40)students.6.3 When class schedules are developed, the needs of the exceptional student shall be theprime consideration for classroom placement. The scheduling of these students shall bereasonable <strong>and</strong> provide an optimum learning environment.6.4 A Teacher of any identified exceptional student who is mainstreamed shall beinformed about the nature of the exceptionality <strong>and</strong> whether that student requires any specializedor individualized management or instruction within two (2) weeks of placement in themainstreamed classroom. At the time an identified exceptional student is placed in amainstreamed classroom, the receiving Teacher will be notified that the student is exceptional.SECTION 7 Teacher LoadWhenever possible, Teachers in academic subject areas should not be assigned more than140 students for instructional purposes.SECTION 8 Preparation PeriodsAll Teachers shall, in addition to their lunch period, have at least one preparation periodper day during which they will not be assigned any other duties.SECTION 9 Secondary Teachers - Teaching Periods9.1 Teachers of the major academic areas shall not be expected to teach more than five(5) periods per day. Such Teachers shall be assigned ancillary duties as in the past or a flexibleperiod (student contact time) which does not require preparation, grading, or testing (exceptproctoring).{OO362235.DOC Ver.
