SECTION 1 Membership Dues/Service Fees1.1 ConditionsARTICLE VIPAYROLL DEDUCTIONSAll Teachers employed by the Board shall, as a condition of continued employment, jointhe Association or pay to the Association a service fee not greater in amount than that portion ofmembership dues uniformly required of members of the Association which represents the costsof collective bargaining, contract administration <strong>and</strong> Grievance adjustment.1.2 Membership DuesAll Teachers who elect to join the Association shall pay in cash or sign <strong>and</strong> deliver to theBoard <strong>and</strong> the Association, if they have not already done so, an authorization for the payrolldeduction of membership dues of the TEA, the CEA <strong>and</strong> the NEA. The Board agrees to deductsuch dues from the salaries of each of its Teachers who have submitted to the Board writtenauthorization. Said authorization shall continue in effect from year to year unless such Teachershall revoke such authorization in writing submitted to the Board <strong>and</strong> the Association in themonth of August of any year. If said notice is timely received, the dues for the ensuing workyear(s) will not be deducted from the <strong>Teacher's</strong> salary by the Board, <strong>and</strong> the Teacher revokingsuch authorization shall be subject to the service fee requirements set forth in Section 1.3 hereof.1.3 Service FeeFor those Teachers who have not joined the Association <strong>and</strong> delivered said authorizationcard by October fIrst of the fIrst year of this Agreement, <strong>and</strong> for those Teachers who haverevoked their authorization pursuant to Section 1.2 hereof, the Board agrees to deduct from theirsalaries through payroll deductions a service fee in an amount not greater than that portion ofdues uniformly required of members of the Association which represents the costs of collectivebargaining, contract administration, <strong>and</strong> Grievance adjustment.1.4 IndemnificationThe Association agrees to defend, indemnify <strong>and</strong> hold harmless the Board against any<strong>and</strong> all expenses, liability suits or claims which arise under this Article <strong>and</strong>/or from the Board'saction in compliance with the provisions of this Article, including but not limited to any or allexpenses involved in the termination of a Teacher pursuant to this Article.SECTION 2 Other DeductionsThe Board agrees to deduct from the salaries of each of its Teachers who submits to theBoard written authorization to do so, monies for one or any number of the following:2.1 Group insurance premiums provided for under Article VII, of this Agreement2.2 Tax sheltered annuity plans approved by the Board2.3 United Way2.4 Waterbury Teachers Credit Union2.5 Connecticut Teacher Retirement Fund{OO362235.DOC Ver.
