SCANNINGThe TX6000 is provided with a scan function toallow groups of user programmable channels tobe scanned for activity. Channels are scannedat a rate of 10 channels per second. If a busychannel is found, scanning will pause to allowthe signal on that channel to be heard. Scanningwill then resume 5 seconds after the channelbecomes clear again.Two scanning modes are available - Open Scan(OS) and Group Scan (GS). Each scan modehas it's own separate user programmable scanmemory. Once these memories areprogrammed, the channels stored in them canbe scanned using the SCAN key.channel is not presently in the selected scanmemory.To add it, press and hold the SCAN keyuntil a high beep is heard. 'M' will appear inthe display indicating the selected channel isnow in the memory.MPROGRAMMING THE SCAN MEMORIESBecause the Open Scan and Group Scanmodes have their own separate memories, youcan freely add or remove channels from onescan group without fear of affecting thosechannels programmed into the other group. Anychannel from 1 to 40 (up to a maximum of 40channels) can be programmed into or removedfrom each group of scanning memories.The sequence for adding or removing channelsin the scanning memory is identical for bothOpen Scan and Group Scan modes.1. Check that the TX6000 is not presentlyscanning. If it is, press the SCAN key tocancel the scan function.2. Press the OS/GS key to select the OpenScan (OS) or Group Scan (GS) mode. 'OS' or'GS' will be displayed.3. Select the required channel using thenumeric keypad or the or keys.∧• If 'M' is displayed, the selected channel isalready in the scan memory.To remove it, press and hold the SCAN keyuntil a low beep is heard. 'M' will disappearfrom the display indicating the channel is nolonger in memory.• If 'M' is not displayed, then the selected∧OPEN SCAN (OS) MODEOpen Scan mode allows up to 40 channels tobe scanned in an ascending sequence.Scanning is performed at a rate of 10 channelsper second.The TX6000 is supplied with all 40 UHF CBchannels pre-programmed into the OS memory.Any channels not required can be removed asnecessary.Selecting Scan.1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - . . . . . . . 39 - 40To scan in the Open Scan (OS) mode:1. Press the OS/GS key so that 'OS' isdisplayed.2. Ensure the squelch is ON (no backgroundnoise ).3. Briefly press the SCAN key. 'SCAN' willbe displayed and the radio will beginscanning.10
What you will see.While scanning in the OS mode, the TX6000 willdisplay rapidly changing channel numbers toindicate the channels being scanned. In addition,the lower section of the LCD will display 'OS' (toindicate that it is in the Open Scan mode), alongwith the last selected channel number. (It is tothis channel that the TX6000 will return whenyou exit the Scan mode).• To resume scanning, briefly press the ∧or key. 'M' will disappear and thereceiver will begin scanning again.∧Cancelling the SCAN function.To cancel the Scan function, press SCAN .∧• If the radio was scanning, it will exit Scanand return to the last selected channel.• If the radio was stopped on a busy channel,it will exit Scan and remain on that channel.SCANPRIVTXNOTES ON SCANNING1. At any time while scanning, you canimmediately cancel scanning and jump tothe priority channel by briefly pressingthe Pri key.Locking onto a busy Open Scan Channel.If a signal is found, the receiver will 'lock' ontothat channel and will remain there for as long asthe channel remains busy - and for 5 secondsafter the transmission ceases. This allows theTX6000 to hold the channel during short breaksin the conversation. Once the channel hasremained clear for 5 seconds, the radio willresume scanning.Skipping over a busy channel.If you don't wish to listen to a busy channel, youcan skip over it with a quick press of the ∧ or∨ key. The receiver will immediately resumescanning.∧Holding a busy channel.• To manually hold a busy channel, brieflypress the PTT switch. 'M' will be displayedand the scan function will pause, causing theradio to stay on the channel indefinitely. Youcan now transmit and receive on thatchannel in the usual way.NOTE: 'SCAN' is still displayed to remindyou that the radio is still in the Scan modeand that the Scan function is only inhibitedtemporarily.2. While the receiver is scanning in OpenScan mode (i.e. not stopped on a busychannel) the transmitter is disabled. Pressingthe PTT switch will result in a low beep.GROUP SCAN (GS) MODE.The Group Scan mode will allow you to transmitand receive normally on your Priority channel,but will also let your radio scan and listen toseveral other channels (stored in the GroupScan memory) between breaks in theconversation. The receiver will continue to scanthe other Group Scan channels ONLY WHILETHERE ARE NO SIGNALS ON THE PRIORITYCHANNEL.The Priority channel is scanned after everysecond group scan channel.e.g. Using priority channel 20 with GS channels1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.1 - 2 - 20 - 3 - 4 -20 - 5 - 6 - 20The TX6000 is factory supplied with a blankgroup scan memory, allowing you to programmeyour own channel group. Programming theGroup Scan channels is described under“Programming Scan Memories” on page 10.11
