been screened by five project partners for the following traits: Rhizoctonia solani,<br />

Aphanomyces cochlioides, Pythium ultimum, yellowing viruses (BMYV, BYV), Cercospora<br />

beticola, Erysiphe betae, rhizomania (BNYVV) and drought tolerance. The<br />

numbers of evaluation data points generated by this project are summarised in Table<br />

3. The amount of disease resistance data is higher in Europe as compared to data<br />

contained in the Genetic Resources Information Network (GRIN), while the number<br />

of distinct disease and pest agents is larger in the USA.<br />

Disease resistances are not very frequent. The following estimates were calculated<br />

based on the data contained in the IDBB (number of accessions with a score
