88 HISTORY OF LYNN. [1645.sieur D'Aulney, the governors <strong>of</strong> the French provinces on thenorth <strong>of</strong> New England. He was accompanied by RichardWalker and Thomas Marshall. For their " good service" inthis embassy, Captain Bridges was allowed ten pounds, LieutenantWalker four pounds, and Sergeant Marshall forty shillings.On the fourteenth <strong>of</strong> October, the Company <strong>of</strong> Undertakersfor the Iron Works presented a petition to the court, whichwas granted. As the answer <strong>of</strong> the court comprises some interestinginformation respecting the Iron Works, it is transcribed." 1 . It was graunted and by this Courte ordered. That the undertakers,their agents and assigns, are hereby granted the solepriviledge and benefitt <strong>of</strong> making Iron and managing <strong>of</strong> all Ironmines and workes that now are, or shall be discovered andfound out, or hereafter shall be in this Jurisdiction, for the terme<strong>of</strong> twenty one yeares from the former graunt: Provided thatthe said adventurers,their agents or assignes, doe within threeyeares from the former date, use their best endevours to theirutmost skill to perfect so many <strong>of</strong> the said workes, that the Inhabitants<strong>of</strong> this Jurisdiction be furnished with barr Iron <strong>of</strong> allsorts for their use, not exceeding twenty pounds p tunne. Providedalso, that it shall be in the liberty <strong>of</strong> any within this Jurisdictionto be adventurers with the undertakers, yt by the lastday <strong>of</strong> this October they bring in their adventures, not lesse inone mans name than ffiffty pounds, wth allowance to y^ adventurers,for the stocke <strong>of</strong> one thousand pounds, by them alreadydisbursed.2. <strong>The</strong> Courte doth hereby further graunt to the said undertakers,their agents and assignes, in all places <strong>of</strong> waste and landsnot impropriated to any towne or person, that the said undertakers,their agents or assignes, at all times during the said terme<strong>of</strong> twenty one yeeres, shall and may freely and at their own discretionhave and take, all manner <strong>of</strong> wood and timber, to beconverted into coales, or any other uses for the service <strong>of</strong> theundertakers, as also all manner <strong>of</strong> earth, stones, turfe, clay andother materialls for buildings and reparation <strong>of</strong> their workes,forges, mills, or houses built, or to be built, or for making ormoulding any manner <strong>of</strong> gunnes, potts, and all other cast Ironware, and for converting wood into charke coale, and also togett digg and carry away <strong>of</strong> all manner <strong>of</strong> stone Iron oare andwood <strong>of</strong> all soarts ; and any other materiall, or thinge <strong>of</strong> use1 Col.Rec.
