[1829.On the tweli'lh <strong>of</strong> October, at seven o'clock in the evening,a brilliant meteor appeared in the south-east.Mr. Joseph Fuller died on the seventh <strong>of</strong> November, aged82 years. He was a patriotic citizen and a benevolent man.He was lor several years a selectman, and in 1820 was chosena delegate to amend the state constitution. His son, Hon. JosephFuller, was born 29 March, 1772, and died in 1815, aged43 years. He was six times chosen representative, and waselected a senator for Essex county in 1812. He was also thefirst President <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Lynn</strong> Mechanics' Bank, and an associateJudge <strong>of</strong> the Court <strong>of</strong> Sessions.Mr. David Hatch Barlow was ordained minister <strong>of</strong> the SecondCongregational Society, on the ninth <strong>of</strong> December.<strong>The</strong> town tax this year was 8500 dollars ; <strong>of</strong> which 3200dollars were appropriated for the support <strong>of</strong> Schools. <strong>The</strong>number <strong>of</strong> ratable polls was 1457, and the voters 1276. <strong>The</strong>number <strong>of</strong> marriages was fifty four, and the births were twohundred and forty three. <strong>The</strong> deaths were ninety seven <strong>of</strong>whom twenty were <strong>of</strong> the following ages ; 71, 87, 60, 87, SO,88, 73, 64, 87, 69, 70, 68, 76, 86, 75, 82, 63, 64, 72, 83;making in all 1505, or an av^erage <strong>of</strong> 75 years; probably agreater number <strong>of</strong> persons than ever before died in the townin one year. <strong>The</strong>re arc now ninety four persons living morethan seventy years <strong>of</strong> age. <strong>The</strong> oldest person is Mrs. HannahHudson, whose age is ninety one years.We have thus passed through two hundred years <strong>of</strong> the annals<strong>of</strong> <strong>Lynn</strong>. <strong>The</strong> thirtieth <strong>of</strong> June, 1829, completed thesecond century, since the first known settlement <strong>of</strong> white menwas made in the town. Could the men <strong>of</strong> that early day returnto the place <strong>of</strong> their ancient forest, how would they besurprised to find it traversed by beautiful streets, filled withneat houses, and inhabited by thousands <strong>of</strong> their happy descendants,whose children sleep undisturbed, where theirs werefrightened in the day time by companies <strong>of</strong> Indians, and alarmedat night by troops <strong>of</strong> wolves, trotting by the doors <strong>of</strong> theircottages! How would they be pleased to see Nahant, whichwas once the portion <strong>of</strong> foxes, now bright with beautiful dwellings,furnished with every accommodation <strong>of</strong> comfort and pleasure,and visited from afar by the best and fairest <strong>of</strong> the land.
