1702.] HISTORY OF LYNN. 1451698.On the fourth <strong>of</strong> January, Oliver Elkhis and Thomas Darhngkilled a wolf in <strong>Lynn</strong> woods. On the twenty eighth <strong>of</strong>February, Thomas Baker killed two wolves. This year also,James Mills killed five foxes on Nahant. Twenty shillings wereallowed by the town for killing a wolf, and two shillings for afox.<strong>The</strong> to^vn ordered that no person should cut more than seventrees on Nahant, under a penalty <strong>of</strong> forty shillings for eachtree exceeding that number.This year the first stone was erected on the burying ground,which was then unenclosed, over the body <strong>of</strong> Mr. John Clifford,who died on the seventeenth <strong>of</strong> June, in the sixty-eighthyear <strong>of</strong> his age.1699.<strong>The</strong> platform <strong>of</strong> the meeting house was covered with lead.<strong>The</strong> bell was taken down, and sent to England to be exchangedfor a new one.
