[1775.such teas in America, and will not suffer any teas, subjected toa parliamentary duty, to be landed or sold in this town ; andthat we stand ready to assist our brethren <strong>of</strong> Boston, or elsewhere,whenever our aid shall be required, in repelling allattempts to land or sell any teas poisoned with a duty."'A deer was this year started in the Maiden woods, andchased, by some hunters, through Chelsea, to the <strong>Lynn</strong> marsh.He plunged into the Saugus river, and attempted to gain theopposite shore ; but some <strong>Lynn</strong> people, coming down the riverin a boat, approached ; and throwing a rope over his horns,brought him ashore at High Point.1774.<strong>The</strong> destruction <strong>of</strong> the tea at Boston gave great <strong>of</strong>fence towas passed, by which thethe English government, and an actharbor <strong>of</strong> Boston was closed against the entrance or departure<strong>of</strong> any vessels. <strong>The</strong> inhabitants <strong>of</strong> <strong>Lynn</strong> held several meetings,in which they expressed their disapprobation <strong>of</strong> theshutting <strong>of</strong> the port <strong>of</strong> Boston, and their abhorrence <strong>of</strong> everyspecies <strong>of</strong> tyranny and oppression.On the seventh <strong>of</strong> October, a congress <strong>of</strong> delegates from theseveral towns <strong>of</strong> <strong>Massachusetts</strong>, assembled at Salem, to considerthe state <strong>of</strong> public affairs. <strong>The</strong> delegates from <strong>Lynn</strong>were Ebenezer Burrill Esquire, and Captain John Mansfield.On the fourteenth, they adjourned to Cambridge. <strong>The</strong>y madeaddresses to Governor Gage, and to the clergy <strong>of</strong> the province,chose a committee <strong>of</strong> safety, and recommended measures forthe regulation <strong>of</strong> public conduct.This year the northern lights cast a luminous night arch, <strong>of</strong>a milk white hue, across the heavens, from the east to thewestern horizon. Another night arch appeared in 1775 ; andin 1776, another.21775.On the morning <strong>of</strong> Wednesday, the nineteenth <strong>of</strong>April, theinhabitants <strong>of</strong> <strong>Lynn</strong> were awakened, by the information that adetachment, <strong>of</strong> about eight hundred troops, had left Boston, inthe night, and were proceeding towards Concord.
