<strong>CCM</strong> Applicant <strong>Handbook</strong>Certified Construction ManagerCMCIINTRODUCTIONThe Construction Manager Certification Institute©, Inc. (CMCI) is a not‐for‐profit corporationand a wholly owned subsidiary of the Construction Management Association of America, Inc.(<strong>CMAA</strong>). CMCI’s purpose is to serve the public and the profession of construction managementthrough the establishment and maintenance of criteria and procedures for certification ofconstruction managers. The operating standards, policies, protocols, and guidelines are listedhere in the Institute’s Policies and Procedures Manual and in ancillary documents.CMCI certification program is accredited through the International Organization ofStandardization (ISO) 17024 certification of personnel as administered in the United States byAmerican National Standards Institute (ANSI). This accreditation achievement verifiescompliance with requirements outlined in the internationally accepted standards for assessingpersonnel certification programs (ANSI/ISO 17024).The Construction Manager Certification Program is the one of the firstpersonnel certification program in the construction industry accreditedby the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and is also one ofthe first ten (10) programs to obtain the personnel accreditation in theUnited States. ANSI is affiliated with the International Organizationfor Standardization (ISO), a non‐governmental worldwide federationof national standards bodies operating in more than 145 countries.The ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 Personnel Certification Accreditation Program administered by ANSIhas been adopted as an American National Standard that gives assurance of the legitimacy ofthese accredited certification programs to state and federal organizations, owners, and thegeneral public.The mission of CMCI is to recognize through certification individual knowledge and experiencethat meet established practices of construction management. CMCIʹs vision is to be the recognizedauthority in certifying managers of the construction process.CMCI is governed by a Board of Governors, composed of professional construction managerswho have volunteered to guide and administer all aspects of the <strong>CCM</strong> certification program.Computer‐based exams are provided at testing centers worldwide. The exam development anddelivery are continually under review and improvement, utilizing subject matter experts underthe guidance of professional exam development experts. This process enhances the level ofcredibility and defensibility of the <strong>CCM</strong> credentialing program. The agreement to abide by the<strong>CCM</strong> Code of Ethics and Conduct is now part of the initial application and the Ethics, Grievance,Appeal and Discipline (EGAD) committee investigates violations, issues sanctions as warranted,and publishes sanctions on the <strong>CMAA</strong> website.
