CCM Applicant HandbookCertified Construction ManagerCMCISTEPS TO CERTIFICATIONApplying for the CertificationApplicants for the CCM must meet all eligibility requirements prior to submitting theirapplication for review. The Board of Governors has the sole authority to advance an applicant tocandidacy. This determination is based solely on the information supplied by the applicant in theapplication form, including the Qualifications Matrix, Responsible‐in‐Charge Experience,Education or General construction/design experience, and Client References. The Governors’evaluation will focus on ensuring that the criteria specified for responsible‐in‐charge CMexperience is matched by the documented experience submitted by the applicant. Thoseapplications that meet this criterion will be advanced to candidacy.Applicants may apply to become CCM certified by using the application online atwww.cmaanet.org, or applying by mail; scan and/or fax to the CMCI for review and subsequentBoard of Governors approval.Once an application has been approved by the Board of Governors, notice of eligibility is sent toKryterion Testing Centers and an email notification is sent to the candidate from CMCI staff.Applications will not be processed unless all required information is complete on the application,references received and application fee is paid in full.Applicants must provide phone and email contact information to facilitate email in receivingconfirmation of receipt of application and any necessary phone contact during or following theapplication or examination process.There are four steps in the certification process:1. Eligibility2. Application3. Candidacy4. ExaminationCMCI expects the application review process, advancement to candidacy, and successfulcompletion of the examination to be completed in a timely manner. Applicants approved foradvancement to the exam phase, have up to one year to take and pass the exam. The one yearperiod begins on the formal notification date of application approval. Those applications that meet thiscriterion will be advanced to candidacy.Note: CMAA believes that all participants in projects and programs are responsible for fulfillingtheir obligations in an ethical and professional manner, regardless of delivery system or contractmethod. CMCI permits personnel working for construction contractors, whether at risk or not, tosit for the CCM exam if their personal experience meets the eligibility requirements and theirowner references attest to their ethical conduct.The first step in the application process is to complete the eligibility form of the application. Theapplicant must acknowledge that he or she has the requisite experience as being “Responsiblein‐Charge”(RIC). The 48 months RIC experience together with all the required experience in thesix domain of knowledge and skills in the qualifying matrix and the education requirement willallow the applicant to move forward to the application.Responsible‐In‐ChargeThe Board of Governors has defined Responsible‐In‐Charge (RIC) as follows: The candidateʹsexperience must be realized during project execution as part of a project delivery team.
