Product News9% Ni steel and Aristo SuperPulseLast year, ESAB Aristo SuperPulsewas tested for the welding of 9%Ni-steel for low-temperature serviceas part of a larger project to developWPS’s with more processes. Thesesteels are normally welded with SAWor SMAW. Solid wire MAG weldinghas never been successful and thereare very few flux-cored wires on themarket with good weldability and sufficientmechanical properties.Initial tests with Aristo SuperPulseand solid wire had been promisingand, therefore, it was decided to includethis method in the test program.because of the high viscosity makingthe weld pool act like chewing gum.The welder has to move the arcvery actively in order to get anywetting. It is really difficult to geta good bead geometry and thetransition from weld metal to the basematerial is often very sharp, resultingin poor fatigue properties.ESAB Aristo SuperPulse is a furtherdevelopment of the pulse/pulseconcept giving full control over theheat input (see Svetsaren 2/2003 p. 42)with two new arc modes; short arc/pulse arc and spray arc/pulse arc.with an AristoMig 500w inverterpower source.OK Autrod 19.82, a Ni-base solidwire (ERNiCrMo-3/SG NiCr21Mo9Nb),was used as the consumable in thetests together with a 3-componentshielding gas mixture. The short arc/pulse arc mode was used for positionalwelding and the spray arc/pulse arc mode for downhand use.Altogether, 24 successful PQR’s in allpositions were produced, includingbutt welds welded one-sided withoutceramic backing. They all receivedthird party approval.Welders know that welding withNi-based consumables is a challenge -It is a software solution included in theU8 control box used in combinationFor more information contact:larserik.stridh@esab.seESAB versatility in robotic weldingWith the introduction of the AristoMigrobot package, ESAB is now able toprovide robot suppliers and integratorswith a complete welding solutionthat is easy to install and use.The AristoMig robot package offersa choice of AristoMig inverter-basedpower sources, encapsulated andnon-encapsulated, robot-mountedwire feeders and the Aristo PendantU8 control box.All ranges of welding wires are robotquality, manufactured and suppliedin the famous ESAB Marathon Pacbulk drums. The standard version of theAristoMig robot package is availablefor DeviceNet communication. It canalso be adapted to communicate withmost types of robot controller. The Aristo Pendant U8 control boxsoftware includes a vast library ofsynergic lines for practically anyapplication, as well as the advancedAristo SuperPulse technology, whichprovides greater opportunities for thewelding of aluminium, stainless steeland for MAG-brazing.The ESAB AristoMig robot packageincludes configurations for thinsheet welding, typically for theautomotive industry, up to big platethicknesses such as in mobilemachinery. Services range fromthe retrofit of existing robotsto the supply of new industrialinstallations in co-operation with ourrobot partners and local integrators. For more information contact:christophe.gregoir@esab.be34 • Svetsaren no. 1 • 2005
