The strength and<strong>the</strong> dimensi<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>formance of <strong>the</strong> tire directlydepend <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> coating process.<str<strong>on</strong>g>Measurement</str<strong>on</strong>g> of <strong>the</strong> thickness of <strong>the</strong> rubber <strong>on</strong> bothrolls (Nos. 3 and 4 in <strong>the</strong> illustrati<strong>on</strong>) is often notpossible due to <strong>the</strong> way <strong>the</strong> calender is c<strong>on</strong>structed.Therefore, additi<strong>on</strong>al measurements are made at <strong>the</strong>outlet. Two laser-based optical sensors, optoNCDTare positi<strong>on</strong>ed above and below <strong>the</strong> coated fabricweb. A mechanical system enables <strong>the</strong> sensors tomove over <strong>the</strong> width of <strong>the</strong> web. Due to <strong>the</strong> smallmeasuring spot and <strong>the</strong> high resoluti<strong>on</strong>, it is possibleto not <strong>on</strong>ly measure <strong>the</strong> thickness, but also <strong>the</strong>surface structure of <strong>the</strong> coated fabric.
