If under age 18, you will qualify for admission ifyou have satisfied one of these:1. Graduated from high school.2. Passed the California High School Certificate of Proficiency Testor the equivalent.3. Completed the 10th grade and received permission from yourhigh school principal and parent to attend.NOTE: K-10th grade students who are prepared to perform at collegelevel, may be eligible to enroll in advanced academic or vocationalcourses not available to them through their high school program.The student’s school and the college will determine eligibility forenrollment based on their judgment of the applicant’s ability to profitfrom instruction and the appropriateness of the course. Courses inEnglish and mathematics will require assessment testing to determineplacement level. Contact the Admissions and Records Office foradditional information.International StudentsGWC values its diverse student population and encouragesinternational students to seek admission. The college is authorizedunder Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students. GWCprovides an International Student Program whose staff is trained toassist international students throughout their studies. The programoffers specialized academic counseling, expert regulatory guidance,homestay services and special student activities.The deadline for completing the application for Spring 2010 is December15, 2010. Applicants outside the U.S. are strongly advised to applythree to four months ahead of the above deadlines to accommodatepossible visa processing delays. If the applicant is under 18 years of age, the applicant’s parent(s)must have had legal residence within the State of California fora minimum of 12 consecutive months preceding the first day ofthe semester.2. If the applicant is 18 but not yet 19 years of age, the applicantand the applicant’s parent(s) must have had legal residencewithin the State of California for a minimum of 12 consecutivemonths preceding the first day of the semester.3. If the applicant is 19 years of age or older, the applicant musthave had legal residence within the State of California for aminimum of 12 consecutive months preceding the day beforethe first day of the semester.NOTE: The burden is on the student to prove residency. Supportingdocumentation may be required.NON-CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS: Applicants who do not meet theCalifornia residency requirements prior to the first day of the semesterwill be required to pay the non-resident tuition fee. This includes:1. Unmarried minors (under 18 years of age) whose parent(s) arelegal residents of a state other than California.2. Students who are financially dependent on parent(s) who arelegal residents of a state other than California.3. Alien student holding visas which preclude them fromestablishing residency in California, may be restricted in theirenrollment and will be required to pay non-resident tuition fees.In addition, alien students who are citizens of another countryare required to pay an additional per unit capital outlay fee.NON-RESIDENT TUITION EXEMPTIONS1. Non-resident active duty military personnel stationed inCalifornia for a purpose other than that of attending a statesupported institution of higher learning.2. Dependents of active military personnel stationed in California.3. In accordance with AB540, students other than a nonimmigrantalien, who attended a California high school for a minimumof three years, graduated from a California high school orattainment of the equivalent, may be eligible for an exemptionfrom the non-resident tuition fee. Persons without lawfulimmigration status are required to file an affidavit to verify thatthey have filed an application to legalize his or her immigrationstatus, or will file an application as soon as they are eligible to doso. Affidavits are available in the Admissions and Records Office.4.
