Because of this fact, thereshould be no expectation of privacy. While the college takesprecautions to protect the privacy of your e-mail address aswell as your e-mail correspondence, privacy cannot be assured.A good rule to follow when using e-mail, in general, is to treatemail correspondence similar to a post card instead of sealedenvelope. As a public agency the college may be obligatedto release copies of this type of correspondence based onprovisions in the Freedom of Information Act and/or a relatedcourt order to provide certain records.Substance AbuseIn accordance with Public Law 101-226 “Drug Free Schools andCommunities Act Amendment of 1989,” the Board of Trusteesof Coast Community <strong>College</strong> District prohibits the unlawfulpossession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol bystudents and employees on <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong> property andas part of any <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong> sponsored or sanctionedactivity.Any student or employee in violation of this policy is subject todisciplinary action up to, and including, expulsion from <strong>Golden</strong><strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong>, or termination from employment for violations ofthe standards of conduct as specified in collective bargainingagreements and the California Education Code. 20 UnitedStates Code 1092 IUnauthorized WeaponsUnless otherwise authorized by the President of the college,or California law, students will be immediately expelled fromthe District for an indefinite period, and be subject to criminalprosecution for bringing or possessing on or within anyproperty or building owned or controlled by the District, anyfirearms, knives, dirks, daggers, brass knuckles, slingshots, airrifles, or any other type of weapon capable of inflicting greatbodily harm.Public SafetySafety and security at <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong> is everybody’sbusiness.
