Official withdrawals, by the refunddeadline, will result in a credit to your student registrationaccount.Refund ProceduresUse any one of the following methods to officially withdrawfrom your course/s:1. Log on to your MyGWC portal page. Select the “Add orDrop Classes” option in the Registration Tools box underthe Student tab, select the course/s you want to dropand then click the “Finalize Add/Drop” button. Makesure that you verify your transaction. You can verify thatyou have been dropped by clicking on the Student ClassProgram (Web Schedule Bill). It’s recommended that youprint a copy of this for your records2. Mail a request via U.S. mail (request must be postmarkedby the U.S. Postmaster, on or before the refund deadlinedate). <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong>, 15744 <strong>Golden</strong>west Street,P.O. Come in person to the Admissions Office.*Students are responsible for verifying all withdrawals.If you are withdrawing from all your classes and wish toreceive a refund for ALL fees, including material fees andparking, you must do the following ON OR BEFORE THEDEADLINE DATE, for each of the courses being dropped.A. Withdraw from classesB. Return parking decal (if purchased) in person or by mail.The Parking Decal must be returned or postmarked on orbefore the earliest refund deadline.If you are withdrawing partially (i.e., one or two classes):You will be eligible for refund for enrollment and materials feesfor classes dropped by each class deadline.Cancelled Classes: If a class is cancelled by the college,registration and material fees for that class will be refunded thethird week of the term. The parking decal must be returnedwithin 14 days of the class cancellation date if the studentwishes to be refunded for the parking decal.Refund ScheduleREFUNDS WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY PROCESSED. - Refundswill be processed every Wednesday beginning the first weekof registration of the semester in which the fees were paid andeach week thereafter until the end of the term. Once you haveofficially dropped your courses by the refund deadline, you willsee a credit balance on your account for fees paid for thosecourses. Most payments made by credit card through yourMyGWC will automatically be refunded to the credit card usedfor payment. For payments made in person, via check, cash,credit card or money order, refunds will be issued via checkand mailed to the address the Admissions Office has on file.Please verify that your address on file is correct. You can updateyour mailing address via your MyGWC, under the StudentTab, and then click on Self Service – Personal Information –Update Addresses.No cash refunds will be issued.Cancelled ClassesIf <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong> cancels a class, registration fees for thatclass will be refunded. If you purchased a parking decal, it mustbe returned within 2 weeks of the class cancellation date.Returned ChecksAny check returned unpaid (stop payment or insufficientfunds) does not constitute automatic withdrawal from class. Acheck returned from the bank for any reason is subject to a $25service charge. A hold will be placed on student records for anyfinancial obligation until the obligation is cleared.<strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong> has adopteda smoke-free campus policy<strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>College</strong> is a Smoke Free Campus. Smokingis prohibited in all college buildings, vehicles, indoor andoutdoor facilities, interior bus stops, designated campusentrances, and all open areas. Smoking is permitted onlyin campus parking lots. All smoking materials includingcigarettes, cigars, pipes, and other apparatus used to smokeorganic and non-organic materials must be extinguishedand/or properly disposed of in the designated receptacleslocated in the parking lots before entering our smoke freecampus.You may smoke only in parking lots

Instructorsmay drop students who miss the first class meeting to makeroom for students who wish to enroll.Attendance at all class meetings is the student’s responsibility.When students anticipate an absence, they should discuss itwith their instructors in advance. Students who are absentbecause of extenuating circumstances should contact theirinstructors as soon as possible. Being absent does not excusestudents from completing all course work. Students shouldrealize that absences may adversely affect their grades.Regular attendance in class and laboratory sessions is expectedof every student, and students must be punctual. Instructorsmay drop students from a course or lower students’ gradeswhen students incur excessive absences.Students are responsible for dropping classes they are nolonger attending.Please see the college Withdrawal PolicyCourse Repetition PolicyStudents who are awarded a grade of “D”, “F”, “NC”, “NP” or “W”may repeat the course one additional time at <strong>Golden</strong> <strong>West</strong><strong>College</strong>, Orange Coast <strong>College</strong> or Coastline <strong>College</strong> withoutspecial approval. A student who wishes to retake the equivalentcourse at another accredited college outside the district mustobtain approval from the Counseling Department prior toenrollment to verify equivalency. After two unsuccessfulattempts, the student will be blocked from further enrollmentin the course. In accordance with regulations, a student whohad two unsuccessful attempts may petition the college forspecial consideration for an additional attempt. Contact theCounseling Department for specific information on courserepetition.** Currently, a change is pending regarding the State andDistrict Course Repetition Policy. Please check with theAdmissions & Records Office or Counseling for updatedinformation.RepeatabilitySome courses may be repeated up to four times for credit asdesignated in the college catalog; however they may not betaken concurrently. These courses normally are:1. Activity courses such as visual and performing arts, music,fine arts, theater or dance2. Physical education3. Technical career courses4. Courses which are legally mandated training courses5. Special classes which meet the needs of students withdocumented disabilities may be repeated in accordancewith Title 5, Section 56029 of the California Education Code.Refer to the course description in the college catalog for specificlimits on course repetition.General InformationAuditing of CoursesEffective fall 2009, the college no longer offers students theoption to audit a course except when in the opinion of the <strong>College</strong>President or his/her designee a student may be adversely affecteddue to circumstances beyond the student’s control. Any studentgranted permission to audit a course cannot enroll until the 3rdweek of class and will not be allowed to later change his/herenrollment status in that course to receive credit for the course.Priority in class enrollment shall be given to students desiring totake the course for credit.WithdrawalsEach student is responsible to complete OR officially withdrawfrom each class in which he/she enrolls.Failure to withdraw may result in an “F” or “NP” grade. Anywithdrawal during the first 4 weeks of the term of the classfor regular semester length classes will not appear on thestudent transcript. After the 12th week for full semester classesand the 6th week for eight-week classes, a grade must beassigned for each student who has not officially withdrawn. A“W” grade is assigned if the student officially withdraws beforethe withdrawal deadline. See the Academic Calendar in thisschedule for withdrawal date information.Students who are dropped by their instructors for missing thefirst class meeting or for excessive absences should verify theinstructor drop with the Admissions Office in order to avoidgrade penalties and to comply with critical drop dates asspecified.Students should be aware that “W’s” are used to determineacademic status.Students may withdraw/drop a class by:1.
