ISS Girl Scout Early Bird RegistrationIt’s not <strong>to</strong>o early <strong>to</strong> start <strong>th</strong>inking about Girl Scouts for next year!Early-bird registration will be held on:Wednesday, May 2 nd and May 9 h ,from 2:45 p.m. <strong>to</strong> 3:45 p.m. in <strong>th</strong>e lobby.Fall registration will take place at Activity Night in August. But registering early assures your daughter a place in <strong>th</strong>e troop as<strong>th</strong>ere is a limit <strong>to</strong> how many girls can be in one troop. However, more troops can be added if we have enough volunteers <strong>to</strong>lead (see information below).Who can be a Girl Scout?Girls wi<strong>th</strong> U.S. passports or girls who attend ISS can join our troops. The troop breakdowns are as follows:Daisies – KindergartenBrownies – 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd <strong>grade</strong>rsJuniors – 4 <strong>th</strong> , 5 <strong>th</strong> and 6 <strong>th</strong> <strong>grade</strong>rsCadettes/Studio 2B – 7 <strong>th</strong> and 8 <strong>th</strong> <strong>grade</strong>rsSeniors – 9 <strong>th</strong> <strong>grade</strong> and upNOTE: I will only register girls from <strong>th</strong>ose troops <strong>th</strong>at have leaders. If <strong>th</strong>ere are no leaders, <strong>th</strong>en I will refund your money.Currently, <strong>th</strong>ere are some leaders for all levels except Seniors. However, we will need more Brownie leaders. We may alsolose some leaders due <strong>to</strong> transfers over <strong>th</strong>e summer.Who can be a GS Leader?Leading a Girl Scout troop is not hard work … al<strong>th</strong>ough it does involve doing some advance planning, reading <strong>th</strong>e trainingpacket <strong>of</strong> information for leaders, and a good dose <strong>of</strong> patience. What you get in return is immeasurable … <strong>th</strong>e joy <strong>of</strong>watching girls who are excited about learning, <strong>th</strong>e opportunity <strong>to</strong> see <strong>th</strong>em grow and develop in<strong>to</strong> young ladies, and <strong>th</strong>echance <strong>to</strong> take part in lots <strong>of</strong> fun activities wi<strong>th</strong> <strong>th</strong>e girls.If your daughter would like <strong>to</strong> be a Girl Scout next year, please <strong>th</strong>ink seriously about helping. If <strong>th</strong>e idea <strong>of</strong> leading a troopseems daunting, grab ano<strong>th</strong>er Mom and you can be co-leaders. GSUSA policy states <strong>th</strong>at a man may be a co-leader, but hemust have a female co-leader. So, if you’re a Dad and would like <strong>to</strong> help, you may certainly do so! New leader training willbe held in May, so don’t delay in volunteering!How do I register?You will need <strong>to</strong> fill out a GS form (available at registration or in an envelope posted on <strong>th</strong>e bulletin board outside <strong>th</strong>ekiosk). Also you will need <strong>to</strong> bring a copy <strong>of</strong> your daughter’s shot record and NOK 500 for registration fees.If you know you are moving <strong>th</strong>is summer, you may register your daughter anyway. She can take her membership card <strong>to</strong>your new location and move right in<strong>to</strong> a troop.
