3. <strong>Rota</strong> <strong>Design</strong> Life Cycle<strong>Rota</strong> design has long provided a challenge to thoseresponsible <strong>for</strong> rota management. Whilst many possessthe skills and the knowledge <strong>for</strong> effective rota designthere is often a framework missing that encompassesthe different contributions made <strong>for</strong> successful rotadesign, implementation and maintenance. The problemis that there are no right answers, what works at onetrust may not work at another. However, underpinningevery problem are the principals that need to befollowed <strong>for</strong> our goals to be met.This Life Cycle is a concept designed to provide asystematic approach to rota design. It will facilitatethe development and establishment of rotas bylooking at the foundations needed <strong>for</strong> success, aswell as providing in<strong>for</strong>mation that can be reflectedupon at a later date as the work<strong>for</strong>ce evolves in anever changing NHS.7.
