Competition
The team of Preston University, Islamabad won the
Innovative Business Idea Competition (Procom.net
2010) held at FAST University, Karachi. Thirty
universities from around the country participated in
the Competition. Mr. Zeeshan Abbas, faculty
member, Preston University led the team while team

In the first round, entrepreneurs were required to
provide an executive summary (1-2 pages
maximum) of their business idea. Before start of the
second round, 10 shortlisted universities were
required to email a business plan (10 pages
maximum). Selected teams were required to give
elevator pitch of 3-5 minutes of their venture
capturing the interest of judges by including
important details of their plan.
Three teams were selected for the third round. The
finalists were required to give 15-minute
presentation, dwelling into the details of their
business plan. The presentations were followed by
question-answer session from judges and
participants. Mr. Raza Haroon, Minister for IT, Sindh
was the chief guest in the closing ceremony, who
distributed prizes among the winners.
Obituary
Prof. Dr. S. Basit Ali
Shah, Former Vice Chancellor,
Agricultural University, Peshawar
passed away on August 23, 2010. He
was 75. In recognition of his
meritorious services, the President of
Pakistan awarded him Izaz-e-Fazeelat in 1992.
Open House Held at UIIT
The University Institute of Information Technology (UIIT),
Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (AAUR) recently
organized an Open House to create a linkage between fresh
graduates and the industry. Open House consisted of two
sessions, the job fair and the brainstorming session on the
future research projects so that productive projects could
be developed for the students.
Dr. Khalid Mahmood Khan, Vice Chancellor, AAUR was the
chief guest on the occasion. He said that universityindustry
collaboration is necessary to sustain national
developmental process both in education and industry
sectors. He further said that academia and industrial ties
not only improve the quality of industrial stuff but also
result in better employment opportunities for the university
graduates. Dr. Khalid urged the students to learn and adopt
new technologies to meet the challenges of this scientific
and technological advanced era.
Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Member (Operations and
Planning), HEC was the chief guest at the concluding
session. He distributed prizes and shields among the
winners and participants of the Open House. Around 200
students of BS (CS), MCS and MIT displayed their projects.
Professionals from industrial organizations, institutions,
academia and a large number of students attended Open
House. Different companies displayed their stalls and also
interviewed the students and selected more than 50
students for jobs and internships.
Symposium on Women in
Career Development
The Department of Economics and Agricultural Economics,
Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (AAUR) recently
organized a one day symposium on Women in Career
Development in collaboration with the Human Resource
Development Network (HRDN). Ms. Suhaila Mushtaq,
Senior Joint Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs, was the
chief guest on the occasion. She emphasized on the women
for taking initiatives in career building by developing
courage and confidence.
Prof. Dr. Sarwat Naz Mirza, Dean, Faculty of Forestry, Range
Management and Wildlife in his welcome address
mentioned that the dream of economic development
cannot be materialized until women are trained and
educated keeping the market requirements and demands
in view. Ms. Fouzia Malik, Executive Director, HRDN,
introduced the Network and its Women Empowerment
through Employment (WEE) Project.
