Wins Procom.net 2010<br />
Competition<br />
The team of Preston University, Islamabad won the<br />
Innovative Business Idea Competition (Procom.net<br />
2010) held at FAST University, Karachi. Thirty<br />
universities from around the country participated in<br />
the Competition. Mr. Zeeshan Abbas, faculty<br />
member, Preston University led the team while team<br />

which include Mohammad Ali Farrukh (MBA 7 Qtr.),<br />
th<br />
Moeed Shahzad (MBA 4 Semester) and Salman<br />
th<br />
Rasheed (BBA 12 Semester).<br />
In the first round, entrepreneurs were required to<br />
provide an executive summary (1-2 pages<br />
maximum) of their business idea. Before start of the<br />
second round, 10 shortlisted universities were<br />
required to email a business plan (10 pages<br />
maximum). Selected teams were required to give<br />
elevator pitch of 3-5 minutes of their venture<br />
capturing the interest of judges by including<br />
important details of their plan.<br />
Three teams were selected for the third round. The<br />
finalists were required to give 15-minute<br />
presentation, dwelling into the details of their<br />
business plan. The presentations were followed by<br />
question-answer session from judges and<br />
participants. Mr. Raza Haroon, Minister for IT, Sindh<br />
was the chief guest in the closing ceremony, who<br />
distributed prizes among the winners.<br />
Obituary<br />
Prof. Dr. S. Basit Ali<br />
Shah, Former Vice Chancellor,<br />
Agricultural University, Peshawar<br />
passed away on August 23, 2010. He<br />
was 75. In recognition of his<br />
meritorious services, the President of<br />
Pakistan awarded him Izaz-e-Fazeelat in 1992.<br />
Open House Held at UIIT<br />
The University Institute of Information Technology (UIIT),<br />
Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (AAUR) recently<br />
organized an Open House to create a linkage between fresh<br />
graduates and the industry. Open House consisted of two<br />
sessions, the job fair and the brainstorming session on the<br />
future research projects so that productive projects could<br />
be developed for the students.<br />
Dr. Khalid Mahmood Khan, Vice Chancellor, AAUR was the<br />
chief guest on the occasion. He said that universityindustry<br />
collaboration is necessary to sustain national<br />
developmental process both in education and industry<br />
sectors. He further said that academia and industrial ties<br />
not only improve the quality of industrial stuff but also<br />
result in better employment opportunities for the university<br />
graduates. Dr. Khalid urged the students to learn and adopt<br />
new technologies to meet the challenges of this scientific<br />
and technological advanced era.<br />
Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Member (Operations and<br />
Planning), HEC was the chief guest at the concluding<br />
session. He distributed prizes and shields among the<br />
winners and participants of the Open House. Around 200<br />
students of BS (CS), MCS and MIT displayed their projects.<br />
Professionals from industrial organizations, institutions,<br />
academia and a large number of students attended Open<br />
House. Different companies displayed their stalls and also<br />
interviewed the students and selected more than 50<br />
students for jobs and internships.<br />
Symposium on Women in<br />
Career Development<br />
The Department of Economics and Agricultural Economics,<br />
Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (AAUR) recently<br />
organized a one day symposium on Women in Career<br />
Development in collaboration with the Human Resource<br />
Development Network (HRDN). Ms. Suhaila Mushtaq,<br />
Senior Joint Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs, was the<br />
chief guest on the occasion. She emphasized on the women<br />
for taking initiatives in career building by developing<br />
courage and confidence.<br />
Prof. Dr. Sarwat Naz Mirza, Dean, Faculty of Forestry, Range<br />
Management and Wildlife in his welcome address<br />
mentioned that the dream of economic development<br />
cannot be materialized until women are trained and<br />
educated keeping the market requirements and demands<br />
in view. Ms. Fouzia Malik, Executive Director, HRDN,<br />
introduced the Network and its Women Empowerment<br />
through Employment (WEE) Project.<br />
