Karachi, Dr. Munir Ahmed Baloch, Director Area Study
Centre for Middle East and Arab Countries, University of
Balochistan and Dr. Rukhsana Qambar, Director Area
Study Centre for South and North America, Quaid-i-
Azam University. Vice Chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam
University graced the occasion with his presence while
Vice Chancellor, University of the Punjab, joined the
meeting via video-conferencing.
The meeting discussed the performance of the Centres
and set targets for next three years. The Directors
expressed their point of view in free environment and
advocated for more academic freedom especially for
enrollment of MPhil and PhD studies. They also desired
for more representation in the academic forums of the
University.
Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi while addressing the Directors
suggested them to pursue focused study of the areas
from different perspectives including socio-economic,
cultural, historic, lingual and religious aspects.
He also suggested the Directors to work for training of
Human Resource capable of tackling various
contemporary issues and work as think tank for Ministry
of Foreign Affairs and other national agencies.
To a query relating to non-availability of properly trained
faculty, he suggested undertaking multi-disciplinary
projects and involve the services of qualified university
faculty while enhancing inter-centre cooperation in
teaching and research.

Seminar on Effective Use of ‘Turnitin’
The Quality Enhancement Cell
(QEC) at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid
Agriculture University Rawalpindi
(AAUR), in collaboration with the
Quality Assurance Agency HEC,
organized a training seminar on
“Effective Use of Turnitin Anti-
Plagiarism Services”. Mr. Muneer
Ahmed, Deputy Director (QA) HEC
was the resource person. He
particularly focused on two new
components, Grade Mark and Peer
Review, which have been recently
added to the ‘Turnitin’ and are
currently functional.

further make writing work of

Muhammad Munir, an HEC scholar at Swedish University
of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden won the
EPIZONE Young Scientist Best Poster Award among 200
th
posters during 4 annual meeting of EPIZONE, a
European Union funded network of excellence.
The meeting titled “Bridges to the Future” was held in
Saint-Malo, France from June 7-10, 2010. About 340
scientists, researchers and doctoral students from 27
countries participated on this occasion.
Moreover, in the same meeting, the CV of Munir was
evaluated to be the Best CV among the doctoral
students. “This event was not only encouraging and
appreciating for me but I also managed to share ideas
and thoughts with the leading scientists and established
new relationships and strengthened the existing ones.
Above all, I got the chance to represent my country,”
says Munir.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof.
Riaz Ahmad, Director QEC, said
that accounts for the faculty of
University had been generated and
the faculty is using the ‘Turnitin’
Services enthusiastically. “Turnitin
Services has started improving the
quality of research at the University
and the HEC has equal credit in this
regard,” he said.
“Arid University has a very strict
policy on plagiarism and lately the
University Syndicate has approved
plagiarism policy on research
theses,” said Prof. Riaz.
