Centre for Middle East and Arab Countries, University of<br />
Balochistan and Dr. Rukhsana Qambar, Director Area<br />
Study Centre for South and North America, Quaid-i-<br />
Azam University. Vice Chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam<br />
University graced the occasion with his presence while<br />
Vice Chancellor, University of the Punjab, joined the<br />
meeting via video-conferencing.<br />
The meeting discussed the performance of the Centres<br />
and set targets for next three years. The Directors<br />
expressed their point of view in free environment and<br />
advocated for more academic freedom especially for<br />
enrollment of MPhil and PhD studies. They also desired<br />
for more representation in the academic forums of the<br />
University.<br />
Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi while addressing the Directors<br />
suggested them to pursue focused study of the areas<br />
from different perspectives including socio-economic,<br />
cultural, historic, lingual and religious aspects.<br />
He also suggested the Directors to work for training of<br />
Human Resource capable of tackling various<br />
contemporary issues and work as think tank for Ministry<br />
of Foreign Affairs and other national agencies.<br />
To a query relating to non-availability of properly trained<br />
faculty, he suggested undertaking multi-disciplinary<br />
projects and involve the services of qualified university<br />
faculty while enhancing inter-centre cooperation in<br />
teaching and research.<br />

Seminar on Effective Use of ‘Turnitin’<br />
The Quality Enhancement Cell<br />
(QEC) at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid<br />
Agriculture University Rawalpindi<br />
(AAUR), in collaboration with the<br />
Quality Assurance Agency HEC,<br />
organized a training seminar on<br />
“Effective Use of Turnitin Anti-<br />
Plagiarism Services”. Mr. Muneer<br />
Ahmed, Deputy Director (QA) HEC<br />
was the resource person. He<br />
particularly focused on two new<br />
components, Grade Mark and Peer<br />
Review, which have been recently<br />
added to the ‘Turnitin’ and are<br />
currently functional.<br />

Muhammad Munir, an HEC scholar at Swedish University<br />
of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden won the<br />
EPIZONE Young Scientist Best Poster Award among 200<br />
th<br />
posters during 4 annual meeting of EPIZONE, a<br />
European Union funded network of excellence.<br />
The meeting titled “Bridges to the Future” was held in<br />
Saint-Malo, France from June 7-10, 2010. About 340<br />
scientists, researchers and doctoral students from 27<br />
countries participated on this occasion.<br />
Moreover, in the same meeting, the CV of Munir was<br />
evaluated to be the Best CV among the doctoral<br />
students. “This event was not only encouraging and<br />
appreciating for me but I also managed to share ideas<br />
and thoughts with the leading scientists and established<br />
new relationships and strengthened the existing ones.<br />
Above all, I got the chance to represent my country,”<br />
says Munir.<br />

Speaking on the occasion, Prof.<br />
Riaz Ahmad, Director QEC, said<br />
that accounts for the faculty of<br />
University had been generated and<br />
the faculty is using the ‘Turnitin’<br />
Services enthusiastically. “Turnitin<br />
Services has started improving the<br />
quality of research at the University<br />
and the HEC has equal credit in this<br />
regard,” he said.<br />
“Arid University has a very strict<br />
policy on plagiarism and lately the<br />
University Syndicate has approved<br />
plagiarism policy on research<br />
theses,” said Prof. Riaz.
