International Workshop at UAF
'Greening Disease of Citrus Threatens Survival of Kinno'
“The greening disease of Citrus has threatened the
survival of “Kinno” in main Citrus producing countries of
the globe. If preventive measures are not adopted by
horticulturists there would be no more “Kinno” in
coming few decades.” This was the consensus among
the participants of the four-day international workshop
on “Sustainable Management of Insect Pests of Fruits
with Special Reference to Citrus through Modern
Protection and Post-Harvest Losses Reduction
Techniques” recently held at University of Agriculture,
Faisalabad (UAF).
Prof. Dr. Mark S. Hoddle from University of California,
USA Riverside was the key resource person. Dr. Iqrar
practices so it is an appropriate time to boost the mutual
cooperation in the field of collaborative research.
Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that Citrus fruit is being
cultivated in more than 100 countries of the world and it
of innovative projects designed by students of Computer
Engineering.
Inaugurating the exhibition, Chancellor Engr. Z. A. Nizami said
that basic purpose of the exhibition was to promote science
and technology in the country.
He emphasized that advancement in science and technology
adding this is the only way to assure the survival of
“Kinno” which is under life threat due to greening
disease. He said that UAF has developed virus free
plants nursery at its campus in order to gradually replace
infected plants of “Kinno” orchards.
He urged the scientists to redesign integrated pest
management (IPM) mechanisms in order to obtain
organic fruits and vegetables.
The Poster Exhibition presented the progressive
solutions for world's problems. Posters based on
various technical projects demonstrated the
practical application of science, technology and
innovation in the real world, while at the same
time creating an image and vision of what the
future holds.
