Commonwealth Scholarships
Higher Education Commission invites applications from Pakistani/AJK nationals, under following three categories
of scholarships, offered by the Commonwealth Commission United Kingdom, commencing from the year 2011. The
eligibility criteria is as follows:
Post Doctoral Fellowship Programme
I. Holding a Doctorate degree
II. Must be employed for at-least five years, as an academic staff member, in a university, which he/she must
join back after completion of studies in UK. The application form must be forwarded by the Vice
Chancellor/Head of the University, where the applicant is employed
III. Those applicants belonging to the field of Medicine and Dentistry must have qualified before October 1,
2001
IV. Be available to join the scholarship programme in United Kingdom by October 1, 2011
PhD Studies Scholarship Programme
I. Must hold a full-time university teaching post, which he/she will join back after completion of studies in
UK. The application form must be forwarded by the Vice Chancellor/Head of the University, where the
applicant is employed.
II. Should not have obtained below 50 per cent marks in their entire academic career (in any examination
i.e. SSC, HSC, BA/BSc, Masters, etc.)
III. Should have obtained at least 60 per cent or above marks in Masters (e.g. MA/MSc or other 16 years of
Masters level education) or in professional degrees e.g. BE/BSc Engineering, MBBS, BDS, LLB, MBA or
equivalent, relevant to their PhD studies
IV. In the fields of Medicine and Dentistry, have qualified between October 1, 2001 and September 30,
2006
V. Be available to join the scholarship programme in United Kingdom in September/October 2011
Split Site Doctoral Research Programme
I. Should be officially registered in a doctoral programme, at a local Pakistani University, and intend to
undertake a period of research in a UK University. The application form must be forwarded by head of
University, where the applicant is enrolled in local PhD Programme
II. Should have an approved PhD research topic and synopsis by the Board of Advanced Studies and
Research (BASR) or Directorate of Advanced Studies and Research (DASR) or equivalent body of the
University
III. Should not have obtained below 50 per cent marks in their entire academic career (in any exam i.e. SSC,
HSC, BA/BSc, Masters, etc.)
IV. Should have obtained at least 60 per cent or above marks in Masters (e.g. MA/MSc or other 16 years of
Masters Education) or in professional degrees e.g. BE/BSc Engineering, MBBS, BDS, LLB, MBA or
equivalent, relevant to their PhD studies
V. In the fields of Medicine and Dentistry, have qualified between October 1, 2001 and September 30, 2006
VI. Be available to join the scholarship programme in the United Kingdom in September/October 2011.
Detailed information is available on HEC website (www.hec.gov.pk/cw-uk), go through it properly before sending
your application. Incomplete applications will NOT be accepted, for further processing. The decision of nominating
agency i.e. HEC will be final and non-challengeable. All nominations from Pakistan will be routed via HEC. Last date
for submission of application forms is October 20, 2010.
