spring sports highlightsBOYS’ VARSITY BASEBALL<strong>The</strong> Rams had an incredible season, going 14-3 andwinning the Lakes Region Championship. Fourteen wins isone <strong>of</strong> the best baseball seasons in <strong>Tilton</strong> <strong>School</strong>’s history.All three losses were by one run, so the Rams were veryclose to an undefeated season. <strong>Tilton</strong> defeated NewHampton <strong>School</strong>, Holderness <strong>School</strong>, Brewster Academy,Kimball Union Academy and Vermont Academy twice, aswell as beating ISL powerhouse Thayer Academy 12-1.Sean Bahre ’06 pitched an amazing no-hitter and also hitthe key two-run homer in the championship, clinching a4-0 win against Vermont Academy. Bahre finished theseason with a l<strong>of</strong>ty .489 batting average. <strong>The</strong> team’s <strong>of</strong>fensewas incredible all year as the Rams outscored their opponentsby an incredible 11-3 average. Bahre and JeffCallahan ’08 both had four victories on the mound for<strong>Tilton</strong>. Catcher Ben Grant-Roy ’06 led the Lakes RegionLeague in batting with a .569 average and earned the co-Most Valuable Player award with his excellent <strong>of</strong>fensive anddefensive play. Senior Co-Captain Scott Hollingsworth alsoearned the co-MVP award by batting a career high .500(fourth in the league in hitting) while leading the league inRBI (26) and runs scored (30). Tyler Trott ’07 (.464average) had a terrific year and was named the winner <strong>of</strong>the Coaches’ Award for his spirited play. Senior Co-Captain Matt Johnson, Teddy White ’06 and Eric Davis’06 also ended their <strong>Tilton</strong> careers with great seasons.Sophomore Chad Davis and freshmen Eddie Dobrowolski,Cory Dudman and Eric Hollingsworth also contributed tothis championship season. Callahan was named captain fornext year’s team.BOYS’ JV BASEBALL<strong>The</strong> Boys’ JV Baseball team accomplished a great dealduring the short spring season. With a young team,including six players with little-to-no baseball experience,the team had a great deal <strong>of</strong> growth and improvement. <strong>The</strong>Rams ended the season with hopes that many <strong>of</strong> our playerswill make a contribution to the varsity team in the nearfuture. Award winners were Matt Wrenn ’09 as the team’sMost Valuable Player and first-year player Phil Lee ’08 asthe Most Improved Player. Other highlights <strong>of</strong> the seasonincluded winning 2 out <strong>of</strong> 3 meetings with league rivalKimball Union Academy and a victory over local rivalWinnisquam Regional High <strong>School</strong>.VARSITY GOLF<strong>The</strong> Varsity Golf team had an outstanding season,finishing the year with an overall record <strong>of</strong> 8-3 and a leaguerecord <strong>of</strong> 6-1. <strong>The</strong> team won both the regular season andthe tournament title for the Lakes Region. In the tournament,John Penny ’07 and Steven Kemp ’07 tied for firstplace by both shooting rounds <strong>of</strong> 78. Jason Rexinis ’06 andVince Johnston ’07 each added to an eventual 23-strokevictory over Holderness <strong>School</strong> by firing rounds <strong>of</strong> 83.Throughout the season, many members <strong>of</strong> the teamcontributed. Joe Delorey ’09, Dan Organ ’07, Matt Tam’06 and Alex Contis ’07 all helped the Rams to their firstwinning season in 10 years. <strong>The</strong> team had gone theprevious season without winning a match and scoring nohigher than a point. So congratulations to the “worst-t<strong>of</strong>irst”league champions, the <strong>Tilton</strong> <strong>School</strong> Rams Golf team.30 | Fall 2006
