A graduate of the Essex Culinary Institute,Ira not only performed his duties with competence, hewent above and beyond by helping everyone aroundcampus with every manner of event.Beyond his association with the School as a father andan employee, Ira was a friend to many on campus and inthe community. As many young alumni can attest, Ira wascommitted to Tilton students and fostered a unique relationshipwith them. He often hired the same Tiltonstudents for the summer year after year and took time togolf with students and faculty in his rare time away fromTilton. Ira led Tilton’s loud cheers for the New EnglandPatriots and the Boston Red Sox and all of the TiltonSchool athletic teams. Visits from alumni of the pastdecade usually revolved around stopping by the DiningHall to see the “I-Man.”On Wednesday, May 10, 2006, a service for Ira washeld at the Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel inSalem, MA, followed by a short graveside service atCongregation Beth Shalom Cemetery in Everett, MA.On Saturday, May 13, 2006, a Memorial Service andCelebration of Ira’s life here at Tilton School was held inthe Fred Smart Chapel. It was standing-room only asalumni, students, parents and families arrived to pay theirrespects to a dear friend. There are a small number of people at schools likeTilton who can impact an entire community the way Iradid.
