If the PCs try to force answers from Moussef or Ishmal(using charm person-style magic), they may beprosecuted for assault on Church officials. <strong>The</strong> localclergy do not tolerate assaults or threats on fellowpriests, even if they are foreigners. Both priestsconsi<strong>de</strong>r this behaviour to be an attack on them, andreport it for all PCs who do not si<strong>de</strong> with Jadhim at theend of the adventure.Spying on Elohir or the PrincessIt is possible that the PCs use certain stratagems to spyon Elohir and the Princess. Such stratagems inclu<strong>de</strong>sending a familiar, wild shaping or using divinationmagic.Because there are millions of methods the PCs can use(and let’s be honest, they always have some strangeresource), no specific system or series of checks isgiven here. As long as i<strong>de</strong>a is <strong>de</strong>cent, allow it tosucceed. <strong>The</strong> information they can gather here shouldhelp them make up their mind later in the adventure.<strong>The</strong>re are two basic things to remember:1- Whatever they do must be secret or at least notknown by the elves (wild shaping into a bird whena few elves are looking is an example). Otherwisethe elves inform Elohir.2- <strong>The</strong>y must not interfere with Elohir and theprincess. Forcing either to make saving throwsconstitutes interfering. In that case, the couplemoves to a more secure location in the palace.<strong>The</strong> princess and Elohir spend the night discussingways to form a lasting peace between the elves andTusmit. <strong>The</strong>y converse in elven.<strong>The</strong> Princess and Elohir are discussing forming a newtreaty with the elves, and inclu<strong>de</strong> the formation of anew sheikdom, the Sheikdom of Zaneren where nonelveswill not be allowed to live (but as to be givenright of passage). Elohir is to be elevated to the rank ofSheik of Zaneren.In return, the elves promise to provi<strong>de</strong> support in theform of supplies and troops to the princess. <strong>The</strong>y alsopromise to refuse to pay taxes to anyone serving PashaMuammar Quaran.On a Sense Motive [DC 15+APL], the PCs can makeout that Elohir seems almost subservient to theprincess, and usually gives in to her <strong>de</strong>mands. If thecheck succeeds at [DC 20+APL], it seems that they aremerely finalizing some few <strong>de</strong>tails as if they hadalready discussed everything.Morning comesElohir and the princess remain alone in the King’sroom (unless disturbed by spying PCs). <strong>The</strong>y do notemerge until morning. At that time, the PCs are calledby to the throne room.Sitting on his throne, Elohir looks tired but sports alarge smile. <strong>The</strong> princess stands to his right, butunlike the elf she looks refreshed. It is a shame that blood had to bespilled.” says the princess to Ishmal.“You are good people, take good care of theprincess. On her life ri<strong>de</strong>s the last hope of peace inthe Udgru.” Adds king Elohir. “I will have some ofmy best warriors escort you out of the forest. Ithank you all for coming and bringing my peoplehopes of peace.”If the PCs ask questions of Elohir, he can give them thebasic information he gave in the Player Handout #1.However, he does not give out any additional <strong>de</strong>tails. As you are about to go down the rope lad<strong>de</strong>rs, ahorn blows from somewhere, following that, manyelves leave their homes carrying bows and swords.Looking around, you can see 5 elves mounted ongiant eagles with a host of smaller birds of preyflying around them coming from the northwest.<strong>The</strong> elves land near the royal chambers and rush tokneel before King Elohir.A Sense Motive check [DC 10] (automatic for elves and+5 for half-elves) allows the PC to know these elves arehighly nervous and shaken, something extremelyimportant has happened. <strong>The</strong> PCs are too far away tohear what is being said.Elohir and his messenger enter the royal hall.Shortly thereafter, or<strong>de</strong>rs are given and all the elveshastily dress up for war. <strong>The</strong>ir faces show fear,anguish and perhaps hatred. A few more horns withdifferent tones are blown.<strong>The</strong> princess, the Qadi and you are pushed to thesi<strong>de</strong> as a group of elves go down the lad<strong>de</strong>r. On theground, they are quickly met by a few ForestGiants, feys and all kind of forest creatures. Shortlyafterwards, the ragtag army has left the area.Until the soldiers have gone, the PCs won’t be able tohave their questions answered. If the party contains amember of the Udgru Elves meta-org or from theChurch of Corellon <strong>La</strong>rethian, then that PC issummoned by Elohir, otherwise, he summons theprincess. On her return, the princess whispers inIshmal ear who relates to the party.Relay the following information to the PCs.• A small army of humanoids coming from the<strong>Ekbirrian</strong> forest have attacked an elven village, afew leagues from here.• This army was composed of orcs, goblins, ogres,giants and many bandits.• Worshippers of all kind of evil <strong>de</strong>ities and even<strong>de</strong>nizens of the lower planes were seen againstwhich the elves could do nothing.• All of the elves were massacred but one whomanaged to escape by hiding in the shadows. Hesaw their lea<strong>de</strong>r, a man in night-black armorriding a nightmare. He alone accounted for muchof the carnage.• <strong>The</strong> army has since withdrawn back to Ekbir. Butnot before they <strong>de</strong>capitated every elf they foundand brought the heads back with them.• <strong>The</strong>y believe Zaneren is safe, but won<strong>de</strong>r for howlong.FinallyA group of five elven warriors escort the PCs, the Qadiand the princess out of the forest into the village ofDeir el’Mahari (the same village where TUS2-03 <strong>The</strong>Galda Coast began). A fisherman ferries them acrossthe Elani River into town.Troubleshooting: <strong>Le</strong>aving with the Elven armySome PCs may be tempted to leave with the elves toretaliate against the army of the Black Knight. Ishmaland Moussef both argue for the PCs to stay andcomplete their mission first, as there will be enoughtime for retaliation in the future. If the PCs <strong>de</strong>ci<strong>de</strong> togo with the elves, Ishmal reminds them of the oaththey took (the quest spell). If the PCs persist, then headto the Conclusion un<strong>de</strong>r Failed. <strong>The</strong>y receive theOathbreaker AR reward.It is possible the party splits up at this time, if that isthe case, continue with the adventure with those PCsescorting the princess.Troubleshooting: Attacking ElohirSome parties may think they can take out Elohir. Ifthats the case, confirm that this is their action. <strong>The</strong>nhave Pinecone wake up and kills the intru<strong>de</strong>r. <strong>The</strong>elves then insist on <strong>de</strong>capitating the body and burningall but the head. <strong>The</strong> head is placed on a pike anddisplayed. <strong>The</strong>se PCs cannot be returned from the<strong>de</strong>ad.<strong>The</strong> Pasha offered a 25,000gp bounty for Elohir’s head(<strong>de</strong>ad or alive), so this could be sufficient motivationfor some foolish adventurers.If they call for dice rolls before <strong>de</strong>ath, laugh it off.Pinecone is a 50HD Treant of <strong>Le</strong>gend. On top of that,ALL the elves also attack the PCs. <strong>The</strong>n the Forest itselfturns against the party.
