Keeping an eye on the PrincessWary PCs may try to keep an eye on the Qadi and thePrincess. The guards say they are under strict orders bythe Sheik himself to only allow Ishmal, Moussef andthe princess inside the room. The guard can showthem the official order (the party can make all theForgery rolls they want, it is authentic). The guardshave been chosen for their dedication and loyalty tothe Sheik. They insist that once their cleaning up is done all theguests will be taken to the Sheik, who has requestedtheir presence. They point out that showing up dirtybefore the sheik is a clear sign of disrespect. Theyassure the PCs that no one is going anywhere.Inside the Princess’ roomInside the room, both Qadi cast a series of protectionspells like magic circle vs evil, magic circle vs chaos, dimensional anchor, consecrate, invisibility purge, andfreedom of movement upon the princess. They alsoscan the room with their detection spells. Jadhim-Orem uses three scrolls of detect scrying. They thenwalk around the room closing all windows and doors.Once they are content there is no intruder oreavesdropper, the princess removes her disguise andreturns to his guise as Jadhim-Orem. Jadhim-Oremwashes himself up before dressing up in a regal garb.Covering himself with a large velvet cloak and otherrich fineries, Jadhim-Orem then waits for his twoadvisors to finish washing up. He places his hat ofdisguise over his head to once more appear as theprincess. However, from this moment on, he does not use hisskills at disguise to hide who he is. He looks like a manin his early 60s if any PC can see through his hat ofdisguise.Troubleshooting (Being stupid)At any point, if the party attacks the guards they arecaught by reinforcements. Within minutes, they arebrought before the Sheik to be judged andsubsequently beheaded. There is no appeal, noDiplomacy roll high enough, no favor that can be usedto prevent this. The Sheik is waiting for a big moment, and having these clowns spoil it all is NOT in his plans. They committed a serious crime and they get the swiftjustice they deserve. Note that the Sheik punishes alltypes of assault with the death penalty. This isexcessive in Tusman law, but within the Sheik’s right. In a similar vein, if they keep intruding by scrying oreavesdropping, they are first asked by the Qadi to stopbefore being sent to the Sheik for justice. Again, theyare found guilty and executed on charges of spying.Forming the escortRead or paraphrase. You may have to modifydepending on the PCs’ previous actions.A young dwarven maid dressed in a fine blue dresswith gold inlay with a tabard proudly displaying thecolors of Dihn enters the room. Her gold hair iselaborately braided, forming two rings over herhead. “Once you are all ready, my master, SheikOmar Saladish requests your presence to thank youfor delivering his guest to him.”Any PC with Knowledge (Religion), making a check[DC 10] recognize her hair arrangement as symbol ofBerronar Truesilver (goddess of home, family andsafety, wife of Moradin). Dwarf PCs recognize thereference without needing any checks. The young maid stands waiting, prudely facingaway from you and looking at the door. When youare all ready, she walks out, where you can onceagain meet with the Qadi and the princess.Ishmal al-Qadi is now dressed in exquisite blackjacket and pantaloons. The red highlights are allmade with opals. Moussef al-Qadi is nicely dressed, but his black and red outfit compares poorly againstthe suit of his friend. However, your eyes do not spend much time on theQadi, instead they focus on the princess. Her outfithas changed the most. While she still wears a veil, she is now wearing what looks like a crown on herhead, an extremely ornate scimitar on her belt. Herheavy velvet cloak looks to have been made for thegods themselves. The princess walks around, herhead up high. Gone is the submissive-lookingprincess.Her bearing is obviously that of royalty, her gaze isfocused with determination. Her pose is soimposing, that she commands respect to all aroundher. You cannot help but feel somewhatintimidated by the confidence and air of triumphthat is easily readable on her face. Before continuing on to Encounter 10 – First Surprise, allow the PCs to make a Knowledge (nobility) orKnowledge (history) or Knowledge (local/VTF) orBardic Knowledge check [DC 25], a +5 racial bonusapplies for Tusman PCs on this check. On a successfulcheck the PC recognizes the scimitar as “The Pasha’sEKB5-06/TUS5-07 The Ekbirrian Job Page 28

When the doors open up into thegrand hall, silence falls on the assembled crowd. The assembly is composed mostly of human noblesand their entourage, but also a fair number ofdwarves, gnomes and a large contingent of Udgruelves. Everyone looks somewhat stunned at yourarrival. The procession walks up to the end of the longtable, where stands Omar Saladish, the dwarvenSheik of Dihn. On a dais are two throne-like chairs. The Sheik walks up to the Princess and makes ashort military bow.“Come in, welcome back to Dihn, it has been a longtime since we have been waiting for you, a longertime still since we had the pleasure of yourcompany.” The dwarf says with a grin, he motionsfor the princess to sit next to him on the dais. The Sheik stands again, motioning to a manstanding in the crowd. His eyes filled with a deepsorrow yet a very noble bearing on his forehead isan encrusted gem.The Sheik stands raising a hand as if making a vow,he speaks, his voice full of meaning.“Since the fall of the First House of Ashir, the FarisRautha have been outlawed and wanted in Ekbir. However, I, Omar Saladish, Sheik of Dihn, declaresto all of Oerth that the Faris Rautha are to be givenshelter and protection in Dihn. Any reprisal byforces without or within will be met with dwarvensteel. Dihn now stands as the refuge and base forthe Gem Knights.”Turning to the party in, he motions for you toapproach. Tapping [choose a dwarf or heaviestlookingfighter-type in the party] on the shoulder likean old friend, he sits you next to the man with thegem on his forehead. Ishmal and Moussef both sitat the Sheik’s table with the princess. Lowering hisvoice, he adds. “Dear friends, allow me to present toyou, my dearest friend, noble Uyok al-Faris Rautha, the Faris of the Squirrel and his entourage. I thinkyou may have a lot to say to each other.”To the rest of the assembly, he raises a large pint ofale in a toast. “To absent friends, and to those whoare here with us!” The sheik’s beer disappears underhis thick beard. The feasting begins as servantsbring in casks of ale, wine and roasted meats, allserved in dwarven-style.The PCs have a chance to interact with Uyok.Everyone in Uyok’s entourage is a member of theRautha Brotherhood. A Sense Motive check [DC 10]informs the players that the Faris of the Squirrel isgiven to deep sorrow and melancholy.Uyok is willing to answer a number of questions. Heonly divulges information in response to explicitquestions.Who are you? I am Uyok, faris rauth, faris of theSquirrel, bearer of the gem of contact. (The gem on hisforeheard is made of Amber and is embedded on hisforehead. If detect magic is cast upon it, it radiates astrong aura of divination, enchantment, evocation andtransmutation). What about the Faris Rautha? Uyok can give themthe history found in Adventure Background underEkbir. Are the Faris Rautha innocent or guilty? We havenot betrayed.
