Harmonious cooperation with international partners onyouth water education is a key focus of these endeavours.Korea Junior Water PrizeThe Korea Junior Water Prize (KJWP) was born in 2009 as anannual national water essay competition co-organized by theKorean Government and the Korea Water Forum. Every yeararound 50 teams compete with their ideas on solutions for waterchallenges. The essays mainly cover unique and creative solutionsfor resolving local or global water challenges. The qualityof resolutions researched by the participants improves every yearand evaluators have a hard time selecting the best ones. Winnersreceive a minister’s award as well as the opportunity to be a Koreandelegate at the Stockholm Junior Water Prize. This gives thema precious chance to discuss common interests and share theirideas and experiences with future water sector leaders duringthe Stockholm World Water Week. KJWP participants also havea close link to participating in the APYPW through the socialnetworks that APYPW parliamentarians have set up as part of theirfollow-up actions.Project Water Education for TeachersAs a close partner organization of the Project Water Education forTeachers (WET) Foundation, the Korea Water Forum carries outregular and irregular water training for teachers with customizedtext and toolkits. The aim of the education is to buildcapacity for sustainable development by disseminatingproper tools for water education and raising publicawareness on water issues so that more people getinvolved in actions to improve water and the waterenvironment. The Korea Water Forum aims to trainmore than 100 facilitators and educators in a year.Co-organizing international water educationIn September 2013, the Korea Water Forum with theKorean Government and the United Nations EnvironmentProgramme (UNEP) Regional Office for Asia-Pacific(ROAP) will work with the Korean Ministry of Environmentand Andong City, Republic of Korea to co-organizeTraining for Trainers. Using the newly introduced UNEP-International Institute for Sustainable DevelopmentEcosystem Management Manual, water experts and publicofficials from different countries in the Asia-Pacific regionwill be trained for local-scale implementation.The cooperation with UNEP ROAP is a trigger forexpanding the scope of the Korea Water Forum’s watereducation, with the goal of finding firm and effective channelsto establish partnerships on regional water education.Youth initiative in the World Water ForumOn the basis of youth activities in the various water educationprogrammes above, the Korea Water Forum and thenational committee for the 7th World Water Forum areseeking to find the right place and time for youth to getinvolved in the processes of the World Water Forum in[ 113 ]
