WHCP 612 (.25 cu)<br />

Advanced Persuasive Speaking<br />

Description: WHCP 612 instructs students in the theory<br />

and practice of advanced persuasion, while focusing on the<br />

values inherent in communication decisions. Students will<br />

gain insights into how business leaders communicate through<br />

the media and prepare for on-camera interviews in a simulated<br />

studio environment.<br />

WHCP 613 (.25 cu)<br />

Advanced Persuasion and Data Display<br />

Description: The focus of this course is on creating and delivering<br />

persuasive presentations enhanced with visual display of<br />

data. Building on Aristotle’s elements of persuasion — credibility,<br />

logic and emotion — students will create persuasive content<br />

to support their point of view. (The course does not teach the<br />

technical aspect of building PowerPoint slides).<br />

WHCP 615 (.25 cu)<br />

Communication Challenges for Entrepreneurs:<br />

“Pitching your Business”<br />

Description: This course is designed for students who are<br />

starting a business while at Wharton. The goal of this course<br />

is to build on the presentation skills developed in WHCP 611<br />

by focusing on the unique challenges entrepreneurs face when<br />

communicating their business plan. The course will help students<br />

understand the process, characteristics, and best practices<br />

for communicating as entrepreneurs. Students will also receive<br />

coaching from a successful entrepreneur, and will have the opportunity<br />

to pitch their business ideas to investors.<br />

Elective Courses (ASPs)<br />

Description: There are a number of for-credit elective courses<br />

(“Advanced Study Projects” or “ASPs”) available through the<br />

course auction. ASP courses range from .25 cu to .5 cu, and<br />

offer in-depth study of specific communication topics. Some<br />

of the ASPs currently offered include:<br />

• Advanced Persuasion: Communicating Change (.5 cu)<br />

• Writing for Business Audiences (.25 cu)<br />

• Communicating Decisions in Business Crises (.25 cu)<br />

• Advanced Persuasion: Speaking Under Pressure (.25 cu)<br />
